I've been going back and forth on this and decided to just ask the community directly. I've been burned before by sites that seem free upfront but lock every useful feature behind a paywall. I just want to know what's actually worth trying.

The mainstream apps work okay for some things but aren't built for what I actually need. Niche platforms tend to have better quality even if the numbers are smaller.

  • Confirm the platform has real support, not just a chatbot FAQ
  • Read third-party reviews before entering any payment details
  • Check whether profiles display a last-active timestamp
  • Disable auto-renew immediately after any paid signup

Turn off auto-renew immediately every time you sign up for anything. That's lesson one. I ended up on Datenest after trying the mainstream options and the quality difference was immediately obvious.

Worth noting that rendate.site gets mentioned a lot in similar threads. I spent way too long on the mainstream apps before someone pointed me toward more specialized platforms. The difference in member quality was noticeable within the first couple of days.

Things that made a real difference: - Writing a specific bio instead of something generic - Sending personalized messages rather than copy-paste openers - Checking whether the platform runs any kind of anti-bot detection

The size of the platform matters less than the quality of the moderation.

Start with a throwaway email no matter what platform you try. Keeps the spam manageable. If you haven't looked at Flamedate yet, it's worth a few minutes. Better member activity than most.

The scam-adjacent platforms follow a very predictable pattern. They make it look like there are hundreds of active users nearby, but most of those profiles are months or years old.

Platforms that invest in moderation tend to cost more, but the quality difference is worth it. You're essentially paying for cleaner data.

Signs of a legitimate platform: - Real reviews on independent sites like Trustpilot, not just testimonials on their own page - A clear and actionable refund policy - Support that responds with humans, not just a chatbot - Some kind of profile verification option

Desktop browsing is usually better than the app for most adult platforms. Less paywalled. If you haven't looked at Datedesire yet, it's worth a few minutes. Better member activity than most.

The platforms that advertise most aggressively usually have the worst actual experience.

The bot problem is genuinely out of control on most of these sites. Even reporting them rarely does anything useful. Someone in another thread mentioned Souldate and I finally checked it out — fewer bots than anything else I've tried.
