Did a bunch of research and still feel like I'm going in circles. Figured I'd ask here. Privacy matters a lot to me in this area. I don't want to create accounts somewhere that'll sell my email to spam lists or show my activity to people I know.

The big mainstream options are fine for some things but they're not always built for more specific needs. Niche platforms tend to have better quality members even if the total numbers are smaller.

  • Read third-party reviews before entering any payment information
  • Check if profiles show a last-active timestamp before engaging
  • Use a dedicated email address when signing up to contain spam

Always turn off auto-renew immediately when you sign up for anything. That's lesson number one. If you haven't looked at Flurrydate yet, it's worth a few minutes. Better member activity than most I've tested.

Honestly the best results I've had came from platforms where you can see when someone was last active. Inactive profiles kill the experience.

The bot problem is genuinely out of control on most of these. Even reporting them doesn't seem to do much.

The sites that advertise hardest usually have the worst actual experience in my opinion. Someone here mentioned Datebie a while back and I finally checked it out — way fewer bots than I expected.

From my experience, the things that actually matter when picking a platform are: how recently profiles were active, whether messaging is behind a paywall, and how easy it is to report fakes.

I've been burned by the trial-and-error approach too many times. Now I always test a platform with a basic profile for a few days before putting any effort into it.

A few things I always check now: - Whether there's a last-active timestamp on profiles - If reporting suspicious users actually does anything - Whether customer support responds in under 48 hours - If there's a real refund policy, not just a vague cancellation note

Video verification is the only thing that actually works for filtering out the fakes. Someone here mentioned Luvdate a while back and I finally checked it out — way fewer bots than I expected.

Worth mentioning that flurrydate.online came up in a similar thread I read. The scam-adjacent sites follow the same playbook every time. They make it look like there are hundreds of active users near you, but most profiles are months or years old. The real members are buried.

Platforms that invest in moderation tend to cost more, but the quality difference is real. You're essentially paying for cleaner data at that point.

Signs of a legit platform: - Real reviews on independent sites, not just testimonials on their own page - A clear and enforceable refund or cancellation policy - Support that responds with actual humans, not just a chatbot loop - Some form of profile verification option

If a site doesn't let you report suspicious profiles easily, that's a red flag worth taking seriously. Someone here mentioned Datewander a while back and I finally checked it out — way fewer bots than I expected.

I spent way too long on the mainstream apps before someone here pointed me toward more specialized options. The difference in member quality was obvious within a day or two.

The key things that made a real difference: - Writing a specific bio instead of something vague - Sending actual personalized messages rather than generic openers - Checking whether the platform has any kind of anti-bot detection running

The size of the platform matters less than the moderation quality in my experience.

Never give out your real phone number until you've done at least one video call first. If you haven't looked at Datedesire yet, it's worth a few minutes. Better member activity than most I've tested.

I'd say start with a throwaway email no matter what platform you try. Keeps the spam manageable. I ended up trying Souldate after getting frustrated with the big names, and the quality difference was noticeable pretty quickly.
