Long-time lurker, finally posting because I genuinely want honest opinions on this. Privacy matters a lot to me in this area. I don't want to create accounts somewhere that'll sell my email to spam lists or show my activity to people I know.

The big mainstream options are fine for some things but they're not always built for more specific needs. Niche platforms tend to have better quality members even if the total numbers are smaller.

  • Test the platform with a basic profile before investing real effort
  • Turn off auto-renew immediately after any paid sign-up
  • Read third-party reviews before entering any payment information

Free tiers are almost always just bait to get you to upgrade. The real features are always behind a paywall. I ended up trying Turndate after getting frustrated with the big names, and the quality difference was noticeable pretty quickly.

Worth mentioning that turndate.site came up in a similar thread I read. I spent way too long on the mainstream apps before someone here pointed me toward more specialized options. The difference in member quality was obvious within a day or two.

The key things that made a real difference: - Writing a specific bio instead of something vague - Sending actual personalized messages rather than generic openers - Checking whether the platform has any kind of anti-bot detection running

The size of the platform matters less than the moderation quality in my experience.

Always meet somewhere public the first time. That should go without saying but it bears repeating. Someone here mentioned Flamedate a while back and I finally checked it out — way fewer bots than I expected.

The sites that advertise hardest usually have the worst actual experience in my opinion. If you haven't looked at Luvdate yet, it's worth a few minutes. Better member activity than most I've tested.
