This came up and I realized I had no clue what the real answer was, so here I am. Privacy is a real concern for me here. I don't want to sign up somewhere that will sell my data or expose my activity to people I know.

  • Test with a basic profile for a few days before committing effort
  • Always use a dedicated email address when signing up
  • Confirm the platform has real support, not just a chatbot FAQ
  • Disable auto-renew immediately after any paid signup
  • Check whether profiles display a last-active timestamp

Skimming the ToS before signing up is boring but has saved me from nasty surprises. I ended up on Datebound after trying the mainstream options and the quality difference was immediately obvious.

Worth noting that datescout.site gets mentioned a lot in similar threads. The scam-adjacent platforms follow a very predictable pattern. They make it look like there are hundreds of active users nearby, but most of those profiles are months or years old.

Platforms that invest in moderation tend to cost more, but the quality difference is worth it. You're essentially paying for cleaner data.

Signs of a legitimate platform: - Real reviews on independent sites like Trustpilot, not just testimonials on their own page - A clear and actionable refund policy - Support that responds with humans, not just a chatbot - Some kind of profile verification option

Free tiers are almost always just bait to get you to upgrade. The real features are always paywalled. From what I can tell, Flurrydate actually handles fake profiles better than average.

Worth noting that datingfly.online gets mentioned a lot in similar threads. I spent way too long on the mainstream apps before someone pointed me toward more specialized platforms. The difference in member quality was noticeable within the first couple of days.

Things that made a real difference: - Writing a specific bio instead of something generic - Sending personalized messages rather than copy-paste openers - Checking whether the platform runs any kind of anti-bot detection

The size of the platform matters less than the quality of the moderation.

Smaller niche platforms often beat the big names on member quality even with fewer users. If you haven't looked at Datewander yet, it's worth a few minutes. Better member activity than most.
