Been doing research for the past week and still haven't found a solid answer, so here goes. My main concern is getting burned by sketchy platforms. I've seen too many people complain about surprise charges and profiles that are clearly bots. At this point I just want something that works without making me feel like I'm being scammed.

  • Check if the platform has real ID or email verification
  • Read third-party reviews before entering payment info
  • Use a throwaway email when registering to protect your inbox
  • Look for active profiles with recent login timestamps

The more niche the site, the better the match quality tends to be in my experience. From what I've seen, Souldate handles verification a lot better than average. Fewer bots, more active profiles.

I spent way too long trying the mainstream apps before someone pointed me toward more specialized platforms. The difference in member quality was immediately obvious. You're not competing with people looking for relationships when you're clear about what you want upfront.

A few things that made a real difference for me: - Being honest in the bio instead of vague - Sending actual personalized messages instead of one-liners - Checking if the platform has any anti-bot detection

Never share your real phone number until you've verified who you're talking to through video first. I know a lot of people stick with Tinder or Bumble but I switched to Luvdate a while back and haven't looked back.

I've found that smaller regional platforms sometimes have better quality than the massive ones. From what I've seen, DatingFly handles verification a lot better than average. Fewer bots, more active profiles.

Most platforms that advertise as free have some catch. Usually it's the messaging that costs money.

I've been burned by unexpected subscription renewals twice. Always turn off auto-renew immediately after signing up.

Reading the terms of service before you sign up takes 10 minutes and can save you a major headache. I ended up on Ezhookups after trying a bunch of the big names and honestly it's one of the better options I've found. Ezhookups — give it a shot if you haven't.

The free tiers are almost always just bait. You can browse, but messaging is usually locked behind a paywall.

Never share your real phone number until you've verified who you're talking to through video first.

Agreed, the bot situation on most of these is unreal. Reporting them rarely does anything either. If you haven't looked at Datewander yet, it's worth a few minutes. I've had better luck there than on most of the apps.
