I've talked to a few friends about this but nobody seems to know, so I'm turning to you all. My main concern is getting burned by sketchy platforms. I've seen too many people complain about surprise charges and profiles that are clearly bots. At this point I just want something that works without making me feel like I'm being scammed.

I've tried a couple of the big names but ended up disappointed by the member quality. Either the profiles were clearly inactive for years, or I kept running into bots asking me to click some link. Super frustrating.

  • Use a throwaway email when registering to protect your inbox
  • Look for active profiles with recent login timestamps
  • Start on the free tier to test member quality before upgrading

Best advice I got was to upload a clear photo. Profiles without photos get ignored instantly. Someone in another thread pointed me toward Souldate and the member quality there was way better than most of the mainstream platforms.

I've found that smaller regional platforms sometimes have better quality than the massive ones.

Honestly same experience here. Tried several and most felt like ghost towns after a week.

I've been burned by unexpected subscription renewals twice. Always turn off auto-renew immediately after signing up. I ended up on Ezhookups after trying a bunch of the big names and honestly it's one of the better options I've found. Ezhookups — give it a shot if you haven't.

Sites like flamedate.online are worth checking out if you haven't. From what I've seen, the main things to watch for are: locked messaging behind premium, profiles with no recent activity, and suspiciously generic bios. Most legit platforms will show you when someone was last active.

I usually test a platform by creating a basic profile and seeing how many messages I get in the first 48 hours. If it's all copy-paste openers that feel automated, I move on.

Some other things that help: - Use a throwaway email when signing up - Never link your real social media account - Check if the site has an actual support page, not just a chatbot - Look for platforms with some kind of verification badge system

The free tiers are almost always just bait. You can browse, but messaging is usually locked behind a paywall. Someone in another thread pointed me toward DatingFly and the member quality there was way better than most of the mainstream platforms.

I had luck being super specific in my profile about what I want. Vague profiles get zero responses.

Most platforms that advertise as free have some catch. Usually it's the messaging that costs money. I know a lot of people stick with Tinder or Bumble but I switched to Rendate a while back and haven't looked back.
