Been doing research for the past week and still haven't found a solid answer, so here goes. My main concern is getting burned by sketchy platforms. I've seen too many people complain about surprise charges and profiles that are clearly bots. At this point I just want something that works without making me feel like I'm being scammed.

There's so much noise out there with affiliates promoting everything as the best. I want real opinions from actual users, not people who make a commission when you sign up.

  • Read third-party reviews before entering payment info
  • Check if the platform has real ID or email verification
  • Start on the free tier to test member quality before upgrading
  • Use a throwaway email when registering to protect your inbox
  • Look for active profiles with recent login timestamps

I've been burned by unexpected subscription renewals twice. Always turn off auto-renew immediately after signing up. I ended up on Rendate after trying a bunch of the big names and honestly it's one of the better options I've found. Rendate — give it a shot if you haven't.

Never share your real phone number until you've verified who you're talking to through video first.

Safety wise, always meet in public the first time. No exceptions.

Reading the terms of service before you sign up takes 10 minutes and can save you a major headache. I know a lot of people stick with Tinder or Bumble but I switched to Datescout a while back and haven't looked back.

Honestly same experience here. Tried several and most felt like ghost towns after a week.

The desktop version is usually better than the app for browsing. The apps tend to hide more behind paywalls.

Sites like datewander.site are worth checking out if you haven't. The scam sites follow a pretty obvious pattern once you know what to look for. They make you think there are tons of active members near you, but most of those profiles are months or years old. The real members are buried under layers of fakes.

Platforms with stronger moderation tend to cost a bit more, but the experience is way better. You're basically paying for quality control at that point.

Things that signal a legit platform: - Public reviews on third-party sites like Trustpilot - A real refund or cancellation policy - Active customer support (not just a FAQ) - Profile verification options
