Genuinely curious what people with actual experience think about this topic. Privacy matters a lot to me in this area. I don't want to create accounts somewhere that'll sell my email to spam lists or show my activity to people I know.

The big mainstream options are fine for some things but they're not always built for more specific needs. Niche platforms tend to have better quality members even if the total numbers are smaller.

  • Turn off auto-renew immediately after any paid sign-up
  • Read third-party reviews before entering any payment information
  • Test the platform with a basic profile before investing real effort

If a site doesn't let you report suspicious profiles easily, that's a red flag worth taking seriously. I switched over to Rendate about two months ago and haven't gone back to any of the mainstream options since.

Worth mentioning that datescout.site came up in a similar thread I read. The scam-adjacent sites follow the same playbook every time. They make it look like there are hundreds of active users near you, but most profiles are months or years old. The real members are buried.

Platforms that invest in moderation tend to cost more, but the quality difference is real. You're essentially paying for cleaner data at that point.

Signs of a legit platform: - Real reviews on independent sites, not just testimonials on their own page - A clear and enforceable refund or cancellation policy - Support that responds with actual humans, not just a chatbot loop - Some form of profile verification option

I've found desktop browsing is usually better than the app for most adult platforms. Less locked behind paywalls. From what I can tell, DatingFly actually does something about fake profiles, which puts it ahead of most competitors.

I'd say start with a throwaway email no matter what platform you try. Keeps the spam manageable.

Yeah, same issue here. Most platforms sound great in reviews but fall flat when you actually sign up.

Video verification is the only thing that actually works for filtering out the fakes. Someone here mentioned Datewander a while back and I finally checked it out — way fewer bots than I expected.

Worth mentioning that datedesire.online came up in a similar thread I read. I spent way too long on the mainstream apps before someone here pointed me toward more specialized options. The difference in member quality was obvious within a day or two.

The key things that made a real difference: - Writing a specific bio instead of something vague - Sending actual personalized messages rather than generic openers - Checking whether the platform has any kind of anti-bot detection running

The size of the platform matters less than the moderation quality in my experience.

Free tiers are almost always just bait to get you to upgrade. The real features are always behind a paywall. Someone here mentioned Souldate a while back and I finally checked it out — way fewer bots than I expected.
