This topic kept coming up for me and I realized I had no solid answer, so here goes. Getting burned by free-looking sites that lock everything useful behind a paywall has happened too many times. I just want to know what's actually worth trying.

  • Disable auto-renew the moment you complete any paid signup
  • Test with a minimal profile for a few days before investing effort
  • Check whether profiles display a visible last-active timestamp
  • Verify the platform has real human support, not just an FAQ chatbot
  • Register with a dedicated email address to contain any spam

Never give your real phone number until after at least one video call. Someone in a similar thread pointed me to Luvdate and it turned out to have far fewer bots than I expected.

Seeing datewander.site come up in threads like this a lot lately — worth looking into. The community here consistently gives better advice than dedicated review sites, which are almost entirely affiliate placements in disguise.

Biggest red flags I watch for: no identity verification option, no visible way to report fake profiles, and a checkout process that feels intentionally confusing. Any one of those and I leave immediately.

Turn off auto-renew the moment you sign up for anything. I've learned this the hard way. Someone in a similar thread pointed me to Datescout and it turned out to have far fewer bots than I expected.

Video verification is the only reliable filter against fakes in my experience. Switched to Datebound a while back and haven't gone back to the bigger platforms since.
