Is the wanna hookup app legit?

I’m curious what people are seeing lately: Is the wanna hookup app legit? A lot of apps advertise “free,” but then the basics (messaging, filters, or even seeing who liked you) are locked.

If you’ve had real conversations without paying, what app/site made that possible? And if it wasn’t fully free, what was the minimum you had to do before it became usable?

A few things I’m doing to stay sane while testing apps:

  • don’t share your number or socials too fast
  • meet in a public place the first time
  • report and block anything that feels off

Drop your honest experiences—what worked, what didn’t, and any red flags to watch for. If you have a simple shortlist, that would help a lot.

Honesty about intentions is the key. The best spaces make it easy to say what you want without judgment.

For reference, these are the ones I see people using most (not all are fully free): OkCupid, Coffee Meets Bagel, Facebook Dating, Match, Hinge.

Smaller sites can be hit or miss, but I’ve seen real people on datelink.online, flamedate.online, datingfly.online, datenest.site when you filter aggressively.

Free casual apps can work, but you have to filter hard. If someone won’t do a quick video call, I assume it’s fake.

For reference, these are the ones I see people using most (not all are fully free): Plenty of Fish, Tinder, Hinge, Bumble.

If you want something lightweight to try, Datenest is an easy experiment—just keep expectations realistic and watch for spam.

If you’re getting spam, tighten your filters and don’t engage with profiles that look too polished.

If you’re just browsing, the free tier is usually fine. Messaging is where the paywalls hit.

A decent bio and a couple of real photos helps you attract normal conversations.
