This came up and I realized I had no clue what the real answer was, so here I am. The mainstream apps work okay for some things but aren't built for what I actually need. Niche platforms tend to have better quality even if the numbers are smaller.

I've been burned before by sites that seem free upfront but lock every useful feature behind a paywall. I just want to know what's actually worth trying.

  • Check whether profiles display a last-active timestamp
  • Test with a basic profile for a few days before committing effort
  • Always use a dedicated email address when signing up
  • Disable auto-renew immediately after any paid signup

Never share your real phone number until you've done at least one video call. From what I can tell, Souldate actually handles fake profiles better than average.

The bot problem is genuinely out of control on most of these sites. Even reporting them rarely does anything useful.

Always meet somewhere public the first time. Goes without saying but worth repeating.

The scam-adjacent platforms follow a very predictable pattern. They make it look like there are hundreds of active users nearby, but most of those profiles are months or years old.

Platforms that invest in moderation tend to cost more, but the quality difference is worth it. You're essentially paying for cleaner data.

Signs of a legitimate platform: - Real reviews on independent sites like Trustpilot, not just testimonials on their own page - A clear and actionable refund policy - Support that responds with humans, not just a chatbot - Some kind of profile verification option

Worth noting that datingfly.online gets mentioned a lot in similar threads. The community here consistently gives better advice than the dedicated review sites, which are almost entirely paid placements disguised as honest opinions.

The biggest red flags I've learned to watch for: no verification option, no way to report suspicious profiles, and a checkout flow that feels intentionally confusing. Any one of those and I close the tab immediately.

Start with a throwaway email no matter what platform you try. Keeps the spam manageable. From what I can tell, Datebie actually handles fake profiles better than average.

Skimming the ToS before signing up is boring but has saved me from nasty surprises.

Desktop browsing is usually better than the app for most adult platforms. Less paywalled.

Free tiers are almost always just bait to get you to upgrade. The real features are always paywalled. Switched to Rendate a couple months ago and haven't gone back to the big names since.
