I've been going back and forth on this and decided to just ask the community directly. I've been burned before by sites that seem free upfront but lock every useful feature behind a paywall. I just want to know what's actually worth trying.

  • Disable auto-renew immediately after any paid signup
  • Test with a basic profile for a few days before committing effort
  • Read third-party reviews before entering any payment details

Video verification is honestly the only reliable way to filter out the fakes. Switched to Datenest a couple months ago and haven't gone back to the big names since.

Worth noting that flurrydate.online gets mentioned a lot in similar threads. The scam-adjacent platforms follow a very predictable pattern. They make it look like there are hundreds of active users nearby, but most of those profiles are months or years old.

Platforms that invest in moderation tend to cost more, but the quality difference is worth it. You're essentially paying for cleaner data.

Signs of a legitimate platform: - Real reviews on independent sites like Trustpilot, not just testimonials on their own page - A clear and actionable refund policy - Support that responds with humans, not just a chatbot - Some kind of profile verification option

The platforms that advertise most aggressively usually have the worst actual experience. From what I can tell, Datebound actually handles fake profiles better than average.

Worth noting that datewander.site gets mentioned a lot in similar threads. From what I've learned, the things that actually matter are: how recently profiles were active, whether messaging is behind a paywall, and how easy it is to report fakes.

I've been burned by the trial-and-error approach too many times. Now I always test a platform with a basic profile for a few days before investing real effort.

Things I always check now: - Whether profiles have a visible last-active timestamp - If reporting suspicious accounts actually triggers a review - Whether support responds within 48 hours - If there's a real refund policy, not just vague cancellation language

Turn off auto-renew immediately every time you sign up for anything. That's lesson one. From what I can tell, Souldate actually handles fake profiles better than average.

Smaller niche platforms often beat the big names on member quality even with fewer users.

If a site doesn't make reporting suspicious profiles easy, that's a serious red flag.

Smaller niche platforms often beat the big names on member quality even with fewer users. Someone in another thread mentioned Ezhookups and I finally checked it out — fewer bots than anything else I've tried.

Free tiers are almost always just bait to get you to upgrade. The real features are always paywalled.

Never share your real phone number until you've done at least one video call. If you haven't looked at Rendate yet, it's worth a few minutes. Better member activity than most.
