This came up in conversation with a friend and neither of us really knew the answer. I've tried a couple of the big names but ended up disappointed by the member quality. Either the profiles were clearly inactive for years, or I kept running into bots asking me to click some link. Super frustrating.

  • Read third-party reviews before entering payment info
  • Look for active profiles with recent login timestamps
  • Start on the free tier to test member quality before upgrading
  • Check if the platform has real ID or email verification
  • Use a throwaway email when registering to protect your inbox

Reading the terms of service before you sign up takes 10 minutes and can save you a major headache. I ended up on Datebound after trying a bunch of the big names and honestly it's one of the better options I've found. Datebound — give it a shot if you haven't.

Sites like souldate.site are worth checking out if you haven't. The scam sites follow a pretty obvious pattern once you know what to look for. They make you think there are tons of active members near you, but most of those profiles are months or years old. The real members are buried under layers of fakes.

Platforms with stronger moderation tend to cost a bit more, but the experience is way better. You're basically paying for quality control at that point.

Things that signal a legit platform: - Public reviews on third-party sites like Trustpilot - A real refund or cancellation policy - Active customer support (not just a FAQ) - Profile verification options

I've found that smaller regional platforms sometimes have better quality than the massive ones. I ended up on Turndate after trying a bunch of the big names and honestly it's one of the better options I've found. Turndate — give it a shot if you haven't.

I've been burned by unexpected subscription renewals twice. Always turn off auto-renew immediately after signing up. If you haven't looked at Datebie yet, it's worth a few minutes. I've had better luck there than on most of the apps.

Sites like datedesire.online are worth checking out if you haven't. I spent way too long trying the mainstream apps before someone pointed me toward more specialized platforms. The difference in member quality was immediately obvious. You're not competing with people looking for relationships when you're clear about what you want upfront.

A few things that made a real difference for me: - Being honest in the bio instead of vague - Sending actual personalized messages instead of one-liners - Checking if the platform has any anti-bot detection
