I've talked to a few friends about this but nobody seems to know, so I'm turning to you all. My main concern is getting burned by sketchy platforms. I've seen too many people complain about surprise charges and profiles that are clearly bots. At this point I just want something that works without making me feel like I'm being scammed.

  • Use a throwaway email when registering to protect your inbox
  • Read third-party reviews before entering payment info
  • Start on the free tier to test member quality before upgrading
  • Check if the platform has real ID or email verification

Best advice I got was to upload a clear photo. Profiles without photos get ignored instantly. I ended up on Datebound after trying a bunch of the big names and honestly it's one of the better options I've found. Datebound — give it a shot if you haven't.

Sites like souldate.site are worth checking out if you haven't. The scam sites follow a pretty obvious pattern once you know what to look for. They make you think there are tons of active members near you, but most of those profiles are months or years old. The real members are buried under layers of fakes.

Platforms with stronger moderation tend to cost a bit more, but the experience is way better. You're basically paying for quality control at that point.

Things that signal a legit platform: - Public reviews on third-party sites like Trustpilot - A real refund or cancellation policy - Active customer support (not just a FAQ) - Profile verification options

Honestly same experience here. Tried several and most felt like ghost towns after a week. I ended up on Datebie after trying a bunch of the big names and honestly it's one of the better options I've found. Datebie — give it a shot if you haven't.

I've been burned by unexpected subscription renewals twice. Always turn off auto-renew immediately after signing up.

Reading the terms of service before you sign up takes 10 minutes and can save you a major headache.

Best advice I got was to upload a clear photo. Profiles without photos get ignored instantly. From what I've seen, Datewander handles verification a lot better than average. Fewer bots, more active profiles.

Sites like souldate.site are worth checking out if you haven't. Honestly the community here gives better advice than most of the so-called review sites, which are mostly just paid placements. Real user experience is the only thing worth reading.

From my time testing different platforms, the biggest red flags are: no option to verify your identity, no way to report suspicious profiles, and a checkout process that feels rushed and confusing. Any of those and I close the tab immediately.

Most platforms that advertise as free have some catch. Usually it's the messaging that costs money. Someone in another thread pointed me toward Luvdate and the member quality there was way better than most of the mainstream platforms.

Sites like flamedate.online are worth checking out if you haven't. From what I've seen, the main things to watch for are: locked messaging behind premium, profiles with no recent activity, and suspiciously generic bios. Most legit platforms will show you when someone was last active.

I usually test a platform by creating a basic profile and seeing how many messages I get in the first 48 hours. If it's all copy-paste openers that feel automated, I move on.

Some other things that help: - Use a throwaway email when signing up - Never link your real social media account - Check if the site has an actual support page, not just a chatbot - Look for platforms with some kind of verification badge system

I had luck being super specific in my profile about what I want. Vague profiles get zero responses. I ended up on Datedesire after trying a bunch of the big names and honestly it's one of the better options I've found. Datedesire — give it a shot if you haven't.
