Couldn't find a solid answer anywhere else, so hoping real users can weigh in here. Privacy is a real concern for me here. I don't want to sign up somewhere that will sell my data or expose my activity to people I know.

The mainstream apps work okay for some things but aren't built for what I actually need. Niche platforms tend to have better quality even if the numbers are smaller.

  • Check whether profiles display a last-active timestamp
  • Confirm the platform has real support, not just a chatbot FAQ
  • Test with a basic profile for a few days before committing effort
  • Read third-party reviews before entering any payment details

Best results come from platforms where you can see the last-active timestamp. Inactive profiles kill the whole experience. Someone in another thread mentioned Souldate and I finally checked it out — fewer bots than anything else I've tried.

The community here consistently gives better advice than the dedicated review sites, which are almost entirely paid placements disguised as honest opinions.

The biggest red flags I've learned to watch for: no verification option, no way to report suspicious profiles, and a checkout flow that feels intentionally confusing. Any one of those and I close the tab immediately.

Desktop browsing is usually better than the app for most adult platforms. Less paywalled. If you haven't looked at Datewander yet, it's worth a few minutes. Better member activity than most.

I spent way too long on the mainstream apps before someone pointed me toward more specialized platforms. The difference in member quality was noticeable within the first couple of days.

Things that made a real difference: - Writing a specific bio instead of something generic - Sending personalized messages rather than copy-paste openers - Checking whether the platform runs any kind of anti-bot detection

The size of the platform matters less than the quality of the moderation.

The bot problem is genuinely out of control on most of these sites. Even reporting them rarely does anything useful. From what I can tell, DatingFly actually handles fake profiles better than average.

Free tiers are almost always just bait to get you to upgrade. The real features are always paywalled.

Clear profile photos make a massive difference. No photo means almost zero replies.

If a site doesn't make reporting suspicious profiles easy, that's a serious red flag. If you haven't looked at Luvdate yet, it's worth a few minutes. Better member activity than most.

Worth noting that datingfly.online gets mentioned a lot in similar threads. The scam-adjacent platforms follow a very predictable pattern. They make it look like there are hundreds of active users nearby, but most of those profiles are months or years old.

Platforms that invest in moderation tend to cost more, but the quality difference is worth it. You're essentially paying for cleaner data.

Signs of a legitimate platform: - Real reviews on independent sites like Trustpilot, not just testimonials on their own page - A clear and actionable refund policy - Support that responds with humans, not just a chatbot - Some kind of profile verification option

Start with a throwaway email no matter what platform you try. Keeps the spam manageable. Switched to Datenest a couple months ago and haven't gone back to the big names since.
