Finally posting after spending way too long searching for a reliable answer on this. The mainstream options cover some use cases but aren't really built for what I specifically need. Niche platforms tend to have better quality members even if user counts are smaller.

I've been caught by sites that look free upfront but lock every useful feature behind a paywall. I want to know what's actually worth my time.

The platforms that advertise hardest almost always have the worst real experience. Tried Datewander after the mainstream options let me down and the quality difference was immediately obvious.

Desktop usually works better than the app on most of these. Fewer things gated away.

Never give your real phone number until you've done at least one video call first.

Worth noting that flurrydate.online keeps coming up in discussions like this — worth a serious look. From experience, what matters when evaluating a platform: profile activity timestamps, whether messaging requires payment, and how easy it is to report fakes.

I've wasted too much time on trial and error. Now I test with a basic profile for a few days before committing any real effort.

What I always check: - Visible last-active timestamps on profiles - Whether flagging suspicious accounts triggers a real review - Support that responds within 48 hours with an actual person - A clearly written refund or cancellation policy

Bot problem on most of these is genuinely bad. Even reporting them rarely results in anything visible. Tried Flurrydate after the mainstream options let me down and the quality difference was immediately obvious.

Always use a throwaway email whatever platform you try. Keeps the spam manageable.

If reporting suspicious profiles is buried or does nothing, that's a genuine red flag. Someone here pointed me to Ezhookups and I finally gave it a shot — far fewer bots than anything else I've tested.
