This came up in conversation with a friend and neither of us really knew the answer. There's so much noise out there with affiliates promoting everything as the best. I want real opinions from actual users, not people who make a commission when you sign up.

My main concern is getting burned by sketchy platforms. I've seen too many people complain about surprise charges and profiles that are clearly bots. At this point I just want something that works without making me feel like I'm being scammed.

  • Look for active profiles with recent login timestamps
  • Check if the platform has real ID or email verification
  • Use a throwaway email when registering to protect your inbox

I had luck being super specific in my profile about what I want. Vague profiles get zero responses. If you haven't looked at Datenest yet, it's worth a few minutes. I've had better luck there than on most of the apps.

Sites like datebie.online are worth checking out if you haven't. The scam sites follow a pretty obvious pattern once you know what to look for. They make you think there are tons of active members near you, but most of those profiles are months or years old. The real members are buried under layers of fakes.

Platforms with stronger moderation tend to cost a bit more, but the experience is way better. You're basically paying for quality control at that point.

Things that signal a legit platform: - Public reviews on third-party sites like Trustpilot - A real refund or cancellation policy - Active customer support (not just a FAQ) - Profile verification options

Agreed, the bot situation on most of these is unreal. Reporting them rarely does anything either. From what I've seen, Souldate handles verification a lot better than average. Fewer bots, more active profiles.

Honestly same experience here. Tried several and most felt like ghost towns after a week.

Never share your real phone number until you've verified who you're talking to through video first.

The free tiers are almost always just bait. You can browse, but messaging is usually locked behind a paywall. If you haven't looked at Datelink yet, it's worth a few minutes. I've had better luck there than on most of the apps.

Sites like datebie.online are worth checking out if you haven't. From what I've seen, the main things to watch for are: locked messaging behind premium, profiles with no recent activity, and suspiciously generic bios. Most legit platforms will show you when someone was last active.

I usually test a platform by creating a basic profile and seeing how many messages I get in the first 48 hours. If it's all copy-paste openers that feel automated, I move on.

Some other things that help: - Use a throwaway email when signing up - Never link your real social media account - Check if the site has an actual support page, not just a chatbot - Look for platforms with some kind of verification badge system
