Who here uses hookupers for traveling?

I’m curious what people are seeing lately: Who here uses hookupers for traveling? A lot of apps advertise “free,” but then the basics (messaging, filters, or even seeing who liked you) are locked.

If you’ve had real conversations without paying, what app/site made that possible? And if it wasn’t fully free, what was the minimum you had to do before it became usable?

A few things I’m doing to stay sane while testing apps:

  • meet in a public place the first time
  • use a video call to confirm you’re talking to a real person
  • watch for copy‑paste messages and suspicious links
  • don’t share your number or socials too fast
  • keep chats inside the app until you’re comfortable

Drop your honest experiences—what worked, what didn’t, and any red flags to watch for. If you have a simple shortlist, that would help a lot.

If you’re just browsing, the free tier is usually fine. Messaging is where the paywalls hit.

If you want something lightweight to try, Flurrydate is an easy experiment—just keep expectations realistic and watch for spam.

Honesty about intentions is the key. The best spaces make it easy to say what you want without judgment.

What helped me:

  • report and block anything that feels off
  • use a video call to confirm you’re talking to a real person
  • watch for copy‑paste messages and suspicious links

I had a better week on Datescout than I expected, mainly because I stuck to complete profiles and ignored low-effort messages.

Free casual apps can work, but you have to filter hard. If someone won’t do a quick video call, I assume it’s fake.

A few places people mention when they want to avoid paywalls: datewander.site, turndate.site and luvdate.site. I still treat any “too perfect” profile as a red flag and keep personal details private early on.

I’ve tested Souldate on and off; it’s not perfect, but the signup is quick and you can tell fast if your area is active.
