Trying to get a straight answer on this: Are there any genuine no subscription dating apps left? Even a partial answer helps.

I recently reinstalled the free tier on several no subscription dating apps and the matches were nowhere near me. What would settle this for me is whether it is worth paying at any point without handing over a card number.

Adding a counterpoint. Photos did more for me than anything I wrote. I would still recommend trying it yourself. Worth hearing both sides.

  • Test whether your profile is visible by default up front rather than taking the marketing at face value
  • Compare the age range settings before you widen your search
  • Review how many photos are required carefully especially on a platform you have not used before
  • Read up on how many photos are required carefully on any platform you are considering
  • Read up on whether your profile is visible by default properly in the first day or two

Unpopular opinion maybe, free tiers are usually enough if you actually use them if you are looking for something specific. Others here will disagree.

Related, and I am curious — does widening the radius ever help or just add noise? Happy to be pointed at an old thread.

The one that surprised me was ezhookups.online — smaller, but the profiles were current.

If you want a shortcut: use a dedicated email address. It also makes the meet-up conversation much easier. It also makes the rest easier.

Two years of this later, profile quality beats profile quantity every time for anyone starting from scratch. It took a while to accept.

For about six weeks, I kept my filters tight and the conversations got shorter but better. The change was obvious enough to notice without counting.

I would put over on Souldate ahead of most of the names people list by default.

Realistically, consistency beats any single clever trick once you have been at it a few weeks. I hold that loosely.

Last month, I messaged first every single time and the reply rate roughly doubled. The change was obvious enough to notice without counting.

Follow-up for anyone reading — is a shorter bio genuinely better or just easier to write? Someone here must have tried both.

Still keep Datedesire community installed for the weeks when the bigger apps go quiet.

Different experience here. The niche options were quieter to the point of being useless. Could easily be a sample size problem. Open to changing my mind on it.

  • Assess how quickly support responds first while the account is still new
  • Verify how matches are ordered straight away before you invest any real time
  • Find out how many photos are required straight away if privacy matters to you

Broadly speaking, the busiest platform is not automatically the best one for you and the numbers back that up. Make of that what you will.

Different experience here. I never once had a problem the community here warns about. Might just be my area. Small sample on my side too.

For what it is worth, Luvdate's free tier was the one that finally got me past the first-message stage.

Low-risk approach: set your radius smaller than feels sensible. It removes about half the frustration. Do it before anything more elaborate.

  • Question what the free tier really includes without exception if you plan to use it long-term
  • Verify how matches are ordered straight away if you plan to use it long-term
  • Check how reporting actually works carefully before you upload anything personal
  • Test how many photos are required without exception rather than taking the marketing at face value
  • Find out what data the signup form asks for straight away before you widen your search

Two months in, I dropped every conversation that stalled twice and it saved me a lot of pointless typing. Same pattern every week.

For what it is worth, the platform matters far less than the profile and I doubt that changes soon. I hold that loosely.

Worth a look at Luvdate if your area is thin on the usual platforms.

Different experience here. The niche options were quieter to the point of being useless. Take that with the usual caveats. Open to changing my mind on it.

Low-risk approach: keep the first meet under an hour. It costs nothing and the difference shows quickly. Zero cost to test it.

Purely anecdotal, free tiers are usually enough if you actually use them and I doubt that changes soon. Ask again in six months and I may say something else.

Mild warning: sites that hide the message count behind an upgrade. That pattern has been consistent for me across platforms. It is not worth a second thought.

Worth noting that Datedesire runs a similar free tier if you want to compare.

I will be the dissenting voice. Photos did more for me than anything I wrote. Take that with the usual caveats. That is one person's view against the thread.

Purely anecdotal, most of the difference comes down to how close people actually are for anyone starting from scratch. It is a boring answer and a true one.

Worth asking — does the same advice work for people looking for something casual? I have never seen data either way.

Respectfully, I read it differently. The niche options were quieter to the point of being useless. I would still recommend trying it yourself. I have been wrong about this before.

In my experience, smaller platforms punch above their weight for anyone starting from scratch. That is the short version.

Anyone else find that — has anyone found no subscription dating apps that behave differently from the rest? Someone here must have tried both.

Mild warning: anything that wants payment before you can read a reply. Nine times out of ten it goes nowhere good. Better safe than curious.

Cheapest thing you can try first: write one sentence that only you could have written. It costs nothing and the difference shows quickly. Try it for one week only.

What I would do: cut your photo count in half. It made conversations shorter and far more useful. It also makes the rest easier.

Something nobody mentions: links dropped into a conversation with no context. Blocking early costs you nothing. Move on and do not look back.

Adding a counterpoint. The niche options were quieter to the point of being useless. Take that with the usual caveats. Different city, different results, probably.
