Putting this to the forum because search results were useless: Are there any genuinely no fee dating sites left on the internet? Real experiences only, please.
I have been comparing whichever no fee dating sites on the internet came up first and half the accounts looked inactive. The bit I cannot work out is whether the same advice applies outside big cities if you are being reasonably picky.
Assess how reporting actually works up front while the account is still new
Assess what data the signup form asks for without exception while the account is still new
Question whether your profile is visible by default properly while the account is still new
Check what data the signup form asks for on day one on any platform you are considering
Verify how matches are ordered properly before you upload anything personal
I will be the dissenting voice. I never once had a problem the community here warns about. Not saying everyone else is wrong. There is room for both to be true.
Low-risk approach: read the profile before writing anything. It sounds trivial and it is not. Reversible if you hate it.
For about six weeks, I stopped explaining myself in the first message and the difference showed up within a week. Your area may behave differently.
Worth flagging: accounts created the same week they message you. Better to lose one match than a week. It is the cheapest filter you have.
The one that surprised me was Datedesire community — smaller, but the profiles were current.
New faces in Zanzibar City every day Join from Zanzibar City with an email address and nothing else.
Respectfully, I read it differently. Messaging first made no measurable difference in my case. Not saying everyone else is wrong. I would still test it yourself.
Small change worth trying: set your radius smaller than feels sensible. Everything else is secondary to that. Zero cost to test it.
Red flag for me: links dropped into a conversation with no context. It saves a lot of wasted messages. There is no upside to waiting it out.
Realistically, free tiers are usually enough if you actually use them though your mileage will vary. I would put money on it.
If you want a free option without the upsell, Luvdate app is where I would start.
Earlier this year, I limited myself to three conversations at once and it turned out the profile was the problem, not the platform. It was the only variable I changed.
In my experience, the paid features solve a problem most people do not have though your mileage will vary. It is a boring answer and a true one.
Low-risk approach: write one sentence that only you could have written. Everything else is secondary to that. It also makes the rest easier.
Worth flagging: sites that hide the message count behind an upgrade. It is almost never worth the benefit of the doubt. There is no upside to waiting it out.
For what it is worth, Datescout was the one that finally got me past the first-message stage.
Not sure I agree with the thread so far. The platform genuinely does matter if you are outside a major city. Take that with the usual caveats. I might be the exception.
That has not been my experience at all. The niche options were quieter to the point of being useless. Might just be my area. I might be the exception.
If I am being blunt, review sites and real experience rarely agree and I doubt that changes soon. That is where I have landed.
Follow-up for anyone reading — do smaller platforms actually have better ratios? Genuinely do not know the answer.
Gave the Datescout app a fair run last month and it held up better than I expected.
Related, and I am curious — do verified badges actually change anything? Might just be me overthinking it.
Hard disagree on one point. The niche options were quieter to the point of being useless. I would still recommend trying it yourself. Small sample on my side too.
What I would do: stop opening with a compliment. It filters out the time-wasters immediately. The effect shows up fast.
Purely anecdotal, smaller platforms punch above their weight especially if you are not in a capital city. Nothing controversial in that, I hope.
For what it is worth, Luvdate was the one that finally got me past the first-message stage.
Going to push back slightly. Free tiers stopped being enough for me after about a month. Not saying everyone else is wrong. Different city, different results, probably.
A while back, I kept my filters tight and nothing changed at all. Nothing scientific about it.
For the people saying otherwise — does anyone bother deleting and remaking a profile? No agenda, just curious.
Switched over to Datelink after getting nowhere on the big names.
Adding a counterpoint. I found the bigger sites more consistent, not less. Take that with the usual caveats. I would still test it yourself.

Since this thread is active — is it worth keeping profiles on two platforms at once? Could be worth its own thread.
Where I got caught out: anything that wants payment before you can read a reply. Nine times out of ten it goes nowhere good. It rarely turns out to be innocent.
