Something I keep wondering about: Do completely free dating apps actually exist, or is it always a freemium model? Not looking for a sales pitch.
I have been comparing the free tier on several completely free dating apps and half the accounts looked inactive. The part that matters to me is which features are worth caring about before committing any real time to it.
Verify how many photos are required early on rather than taking the marketing at face value
Double-check what the free tier really includes without exception especially on a platform you have not used before
Test what the free tier really includes first so you are not surprised later
Mild warning: reviews that read like they were written to a template. It is almost never worth the benefit of the doubt. The cost of being wrong is low.
Curious about the flip side — does anyone bother deleting and remaking a profile? No agenda, just curious.
When I stopped overthinking it, I kept photos to four and cut the rest and it turned out the profile was the problem, not the platform. Small sample, but consistent.
Hard disagree on one point. I never once had a problem the community here warns about. Not saying everyone else is wrong. Small sample on my side too.
Gave Turndate community a fair run last month and it held up better than I expected.
Datescout came up in another thread here with roughly the same verdict.
Join the Ptuj community free Free messaging in Ptuj from the first hello onwards.
Unpopular opinion maybe, the algorithm gets blamed for a lot of ordinary bad luck and the numbers back that up. Others here will disagree.
I will be the dissenting voice. Messaging first made no measurable difference in my case. Take that with the usual caveats. Take it as a counterweight, not a correction.
The advice I wish I had: read the profile before writing anything. You will know within a week whether it works for you. Nothing else on this list matters as much.
Still keep Flamedate installed for the weeks when the bigger apps go quiet.
Adding a counterpoint. The niche options were quieter to the point of being useless. Worth testing both ways. Just adding another data point.
Review how matches are ordered carefully if privacy matters to you
Find out what data the signup form asks for on day one especially on a platform you have not used before
Compare whether profiles are verified at the start before you widen your search
Verify the last-active timestamp before anything else on any platform you are considering
Find out what the free tier really includes without exception before writing a single message
One thing that helped: read the profile before writing anything. It is the only advice here I would give twice. No downside I have found.
Unpopular opinion maybe, consistency beats any single clever trick and I doubt that changes soon. Ask again in six months and I may say something else.
Since this thread is active — do smaller platforms actually have better ratios? Would change how I use it if so.
For most of last year, I messaged first every single time and the conversations got shorter but better. Results were steady after the first week.
Genuine question though — do photo changes reset how often you get shown? Asking for a friend, obviously.
The advice I wish I had: give any new platform a fortnight before judging it. It made conversations shorter and far more useful. You will not need a second attempt.
Between the free options I tested, the Datescout app had the least aggressive upsell.
Related, and I am curious — do verified badges actually change anything? Happy to be pointed at an old thread.
Look at how many photos are required before anything else while the account is still new
Test the distance filter default every time rather than taking the marketing at face value
Assess what the free tier really includes every time on any platform you are considering
If I am being blunt, being specific is worth more than being interesting unless you have unusually niche requirements. Make of that what you will.
Going to push back slightly. I never once had a problem the community here warns about. Could easily be a sample size problem. I would still test it yourself.
I keep a second profile on the Datedesire app and it pulls a different crowd entirely.
Hard disagree on one point. I found the bigger sites more consistent, not less. Your experience may well differ. Not dismissing anyone else's experience.
When I first started, I kept photos to four and cut the rest and it saved me a lot of pointless typing. Nothing scientific about it.
Not a popular take here, the algorithm gets blamed for a lot of ordinary bad luck and nobody wants to hear it. That is my read, anyway.
Switched over to Datescout after getting nowhere on the big names.
Not sure I agree with the thread so far. The niche options were quieter to the point of being useless. Could easily be a sample size problem. Take it as a counterweight, not a correction.
Curious about the flip side — does widening the radius ever help or just add noise? Would love a straight answer on that.
Last month, I stuck to completely free dating apps with complete profiles only and it turned out the profile was the problem, not the platform. I tracked it loosely and the trend was clear.
Unpopular opinion maybe, the algorithm gets blamed for a lot of ordinary bad luck which is why the generic advice keeps failing. Feel free to prove me wrong.
