Putting this to the forum because search results were useless: Has anyone had success on farmersonly even if they don't live on a farm? Happy to hear negative experiences too.

Someone recommended the most recommended dating apps and the messaging limits killed it. What nobody seems to answer is how you tell an active profile from an abandoned one when you have limited time in the evenings.

  • Assess the age range settings carefully before you invest any real time
  • Find out what the free tier really includes up front especially on a platform you have not used before
  • Test how blocking is handled without exception before you widen your search
  • Check whether messaging is capped at the start if you plan to use it long-term
  • Confirm how reporting actually works carefully if privacy matters to you

Cheapest thing you can try first: message within a day of matching. It costs nothing and the difference shows quickly. It works better than it sounds.

Respectfully, I read it differently. Messaging first made no measurable difference in my case. Take that with the usual caveats. I have been wrong about this before.

For the people saying otherwise — is a shorter bio genuinely better or just easier to write? Someone here must have tried both.

Based on a fairly small sample, review sites and real experience rarely agree and it took me too long to learn. I hold that loosely.

Tried Rendate (free to message) on a whim and it has been the steadier of the two I use.

Going to push back slightly. The niche options were quieter to the point of being useless. Not saying everyone else is wrong. Small sample on my side too.

Slightly off-topic but — does this hold up outside big cities? Might just be me overthinking it.

Since switching my settings, I stopped explaining myself in the first message and the difference showed up within a week. I would call that a real effect.

For what it is worth, Datedesire community was the one that finally got me past the first-message stage.

Hard disagree on one point. Messaging first made no measurable difference in my case. Might just be my area. I have been wrong about this before.

  • Assess what data the signup form asks for every time if privacy matters to you
  • Compare the refund and cancellation terms carefully in the first day or two
  • Work out whether your profile is visible by default every time while the account is still new
  • Read up on what data the signup form asks for on day one on any platform you are considering
  • Work out the distance filter default every time so you are not surprised later

Based on a fairly small sample, reply rates say more about timing than about looks unless you have unusually niche requirements. The exceptions are rarer than people think.

Anyone else find that — do verified badges actually change anything? Asking for a friend, obviously.

Where I got caught out: sites that hide the message count behind an upgrade. It saves a lot of wasted messages. There is no upside to waiting it out.

Someone in another thread pointed me at the Datenest app and it turned out to be decent advice.

Going to push back slightly. The platform genuinely does matter if you are outside a major city. I would still recommend trying it yourself. Could be timing rather than the platform.

After a friend nagged me into it, I tried the opposite of what the guides say and nothing changed at all. Nothing scientific about it.

One thing that helped: use a dedicated email address. It sounds trivial and it is not. Reversible if you hate it.

Worth asking — do smaller platforms actually have better ratios? Might just be me overthinking it.

I would put over on Datescout ahead of most of the names people list by default.

Least effort, most return: stop treating it like a numbers game. That one change fixed most of my problems. Do it before anything more elaborate.

For most of last year, I tested two profiles side by side and matches started coming from closer by. Could be luck; it did not feel like it.

Something nobody mentions: reviews that read like they were written to a template. I stopped giving second chances on that one. Better safe than curious.

Where I got caught out: anything that wants payment before you can read a reply. Once you notice it you cannot unsee it. It is the cheapest filter you have.

  • Compare whether your profile is visible by default up front before you invest any real time
  • Test how many photos are required straight away especially on a platform you have not used before
  • Read up on whether messaging is capped every time on any platform you are considering

After rewriting my profile, I messaged first every single time and honestly it was the only thing that helped. Worth repeating if you have the patience.

Worth testing for a week: stop opening with a compliment. It filters out the time-wasters immediately. Try it for one week only.

Hard disagree on one point. Free tiers stopped being enough for me after about a month. Worth testing both ways. Different city, different results, probably.

  • Verify how reporting actually works before anything else while the account is still new
  • Question the age range settings at the start so you are not surprised later
  • Test the refund and cancellation terms early on before you upload anything personal

Before anything else: stop treating it like a numbers game. It filters out the time-wasters immediately. Try it for one week only.

Two years of this later, review sites and real experience rarely agree and the numbers back that up. Ask again in six months and I may say something else.

Watch out for links dropped into a conversation with no context. It is the clearest signal there is. The cost of being wrong is low.

Worth testing for a week: cut your photo count in half. You will know within a week whether it works for you. It works better than it sounds.

Red flag for me: links dropped into a conversation with no context. Nine times out of ten it goes nowhere good. It is not worth a second thought.

Adding a counterpoint. Being picky early saved me far more time than being open-minded did. Could easily be a sample size problem. Just adding another data point.

One thing to watch: links dropped into a conversation with no context. That pattern has been consistent for me across platforms. One instance is chance; three is not.

Least effort, most return: set your radius smaller than feels sensible. It made conversations shorter and far more useful. Skip the clever stuff until you have done that.

Respectfully, I read it differently. Free tiers stopped being enough for me after about a month. Worth testing both ways. I might be the exception.

Related, and I am curious — has anyone found dating apps on a farm that behave differently from the rest? Might just be me overthinking it.

Something I have wondered — has anyone found dating apps on a farm that behave differently from the rest? Asking for a friend, obviously.

One thing to watch: profiles that only ever reply in the small hours. Blocking early costs you nothing. Better safe than curious.

Not sure I agree with the thread so far. Free tiers stopped being enough for me after about a month. Worth testing both ways. Genuinely not trying to be difficult.

Not a popular take here, the busiest platform is not automatically the best one for you at least in a mid-sized area. Happy to be argued with.

Least effort, most return: set your radius smaller than feels sensible. It made conversations shorter and far more useful. It also makes the rest easier.

Something nobody mentions: auto-renew on any trial you sign up for. Once you notice it you cannot unsee it. Nobody has ever thanked me for being patient there.

Curious about the flip side — do photo changes reset how often you get shown? No agenda, just curious.

Hard disagree on one point. I never once had a problem the community here warns about. Could easily be a sample size problem. Take it as a counterweight, not a correction.
