Bit of a long shot, but: How do I figure out which is the best dating app for me? No wrong answers here.
I have been using three different dating app and I want to know if that is normal. My real question is how much of this is down to the profile itself for someone who dislikes small talk.
Question whether profiles are verified on day one before you widen your search
Note the age range settings up front on any platform you are considering
Check how matches are ordered if privacy matters to you
Double-check what data the signup form asks for early on while the account is still new
Speaking only for myself, being specific is worth more than being interesting if you are looking for something specific. That is my read, anyway.
Hard disagree on one point. I found the bigger sites more consistent, not less. Your experience may well differ. Take it as a counterweight, not a correction.
Red flag for me: reviews that read like they were written to a template. It saves a lot of wasted messages. Trust the pattern, not the excuse.
A while back, I dropped every conversation that stalled twice and it saved me a lot of pointless typing. Nothing scientific about it.
Still keep over on Datescout installed for the weeks when the bigger apps go quiet.
Browsing is free in Doboj — so is messaging Free messaging in Doboj from the first hello onwards.
Not sure I agree with the thread so far. The niche options were quieter to the point of being useless. Your experience may well differ. Genuinely not trying to be difficult.
Careful with accounts created the same week they message you. Better to lose one match than a week. The cost of being wrong is low.
Practical suggestion: turn off notifications and check twice a day. That one change fixed most of my problems. Reversible if you hate it.
Purely anecdotal, being specific is worth more than being interesting and it took me too long to learn. Feel free to prove me wrong.
I keep a second profile on Luvdate community and it pulls a different crowd entirely.
If you want a shortcut: turn off notifications and check twice a day. It filters out the time-wasters immediately. It also makes the rest easier.
I will be the dissenting voice. Photos did more for me than anything I wrote. I would still recommend trying it yourself. Genuinely not trying to be difficult.
Having tried most of them, the platform matters far less than the profile for anyone starting from scratch. Others here will disagree.
Having tried most of them, review sites and real experience rarely agree and I doubt that changes soon. Make of that what you will.
Learned this the hard way: anything that wants payment before you can read a reply. It saves a lot of wasted messages. Nobody has ever thanked me for being patient there.
Going to push back slightly. I found the bigger sites more consistent, not less. Could easily be a sample size problem. I have been wrong about this before.
Worth a look at over on Datebie if your area is thin on the usual platforms.
I will be the dissenting voice. I found the bigger sites more consistent, not less. Happy to be an outlier on that. Different city, different results, probably.
Question how blocking is handled at the start before you invest any real time
Review whether messaging is capped without exception if privacy matters to you
Verify what the free tier really includes straight away before you upload anything personal
Check whether messaging is capped first while the account is still new
Compare how matches are ordered carefully before you widen your search
One more thing I have never resolved — do verified badges actually change anything? Genuinely do not know the answer.
Not a popular take here, review sites and real experience rarely agree at least in a mid-sized area. Feel free to prove me wrong.
Hard disagree on one point. Photos did more for me than anything I wrote. Your experience may well differ. Take it as a counterweight, not a correction.
Find out whether messaging is capped before anything else so you are not surprised later
Note the distance filter default at the start before you upload anything personal
Read up on the last-active timestamp on day one if you plan to use it long-term
Assess whether profiles are verified on day one if you plan to use it long-term
Based on a fairly small sample, review sites and real experience rarely agree especially if you are not in a capital city. Feel free to prove me wrong.
After rewriting my profile, I dropped every conversation that stalled twice and the conversations got shorter but better. That held for about two months.
Not sure I agree with the thread so far. The niche options were quieter to the point of being useless. Worth testing both ways. Open to changing my mind on it.
Since this thread is active — does the same advice work for people looking for something casual? Would change how I use it if so.
Confirm how many photos are required first while the account is still new
Verify whether messaging is capped properly before you invest any real time
Question whether your profile is visible by default early on rather than taking the marketing at face value
Find out how many photos are required at the start especially on a platform you have not used before
Work out the age range settings carefully on any platform you are considering
Hard disagree on one point. Photos did more for me than anything I wrote. Not saying everyone else is wrong. Not dismissing anyone else's experience.
Speaking only for myself, smaller platforms punch above their weight unless you have unusually niche requirements. Ask again in six months and I may say something else.
Anyone else find that — has anyone compared this against the paid options fairly? No agenda, just curious.
