Hoping someone here has actually tested this: Is the match dating app better than the desktop version? Not looking for a sales pitch.
I have tested one of the newer match dating app and I want to know if that is normal. What I actually want to know is whether the same advice applies outside big cities before committing any real time to it.
That has not been my experience at all. The platform genuinely does matter if you are outside a major city. I would still recommend trying it yourself. Genuinely not trying to be difficult.
Look at whether your profile is visible by default straight away before you invest any real time
Double-check how matches are ordered every time in the first day or two
Test the distance filter default early on before you widen your search
Since this thread is active — does this hold up outside big cities? I have never seen data either way.
What I would do: give any new platform a fortnight before judging it. It is the only advice here I would give twice. It works better than it sounds.
Something nobody mentions: sites that hide the message count behind an upgrade. Better to lose one match than a week. One instance is chance; three is not.
Adding a counterpoint. The platform genuinely does matter if you are outside a major city. Happy to be an outlier on that. I would still test it yourself.
Worth testing for a week: turn off notifications and check twice a day. It stops the whole thing feeling like a chore. No downside I have found.
The one that surprised me was over on Luvdate — smaller, but the profiles were current.
The first fortnight, I stopped explaining myself in the first message and the difference showed up within a week. Results were steady after the first week.
Small change worth trying: check for a visible last-active timestamp before investing. You will know within a week whether it works for you. It also makes the rest easier.
That has not been my experience at all. I never once had a problem the community here warns about. Might just be my area. That is one person's view against the thread.
Still keep over on Datebie installed for the weeks when the bigger apps go quiet.
Respectfully, I read it differently. The platform genuinely does matter if you are outside a major city. Happy to be an outlier on that. There is room for both to be true.
Going to push back slightly. Photos did more for me than anything I wrote. Your experience may well differ. Just adding another data point.
Piggybacking on that — is it worth keeping profiles on two platforms at once? Could be worth its own thread.
If you want a free option without the upsell, the Flurrydate app is where I would start.
What I would do: cut your photo count in half. It is the only advice here I would give twice. Takes about five minutes.
Watch out for anyone asking for a phone number before a proper conversation. I stopped giving second chances on that one. The polite version costs you a week.
Different experience here. Messaging first made no measurable difference in my case. Not saying everyone else is wrong. Take it as a counterweight, not a correction.
A while back, I stopped sending openers before 9pm and it made a noticeable difference. It stopped being random after that.
