Asking properly this time: Is the regular friend finder dating side worth using for serious relationships? Real experiences only, please.

I nearly paid for the free tier on several adult dating platforms for serious relationships and I could not tell which reviews were paid for. What nobody seems to answer is whether the newer options are any better than the established ones without handing over a card number.

  • Test whether profiles are verified carefully while the account is still new
  • Find out how matches are ordered carefully while the account is still new
  • Read up on how blocking is handled without exception before you widen your search

Low-risk approach: check for a visible last-active timestamp before investing. It made conversations shorter and far more useful. It compounds with everything else.

That has not been my experience at all. The platform genuinely does matter if you are outside a major city. Worth testing both ways. I have been wrong about this before.

Since this thread is active — is there a measurable difference between weekday and weekend signups? Could be worth its own thread.

Something nobody mentions: anyone asking for a phone number before a proper conversation. I stopped giving second chances on that one. One instance is chance; three is not.

Still keep Datescout's free tier installed for the weeks when the bigger apps go quiet.

A while back, I stopped sending openers before 9pm and it saved me a lot of pointless typing. Worth repeating if you have the patience.

What I would do: write one sentence that only you could have written. That one change fixed most of my problems. No downside I have found.

Related, and I am curious — does the same advice work for people looking for something casual? Happy to be pointed at an old thread.

I would put the Datescout app ahead of most of the names people list by default.

For what it is worth, free tiers are usually enough if you actually use them and the numbers back that up. That is my read, anyway.

What I would do: cut your photo count in half. Most people skip it and then wonder why nothing happens. Easiest change on this list.

Respectfully, I read it differently. The niche options were quieter to the point of being useless. Your experience may well differ. There is room for both to be true.

If you want a free option without the upsell, Luvdate (free to message) is where I would start.

Having tried most of them, being specific is worth more than being interesting once you have been at it a few weeks. That is my read, anyway.

  • Review the last-active timestamp up front if you plan to use it long-term
  • Verify whether your profile is visible by default straight away before writing a single message
  • Note how matches are ordered up front so you are not surprised later
  • Verify whether messaging is capped without exception in the first day or two

I will be the dissenting voice. Being picky early saved me far more time than being open-minded did. Take that with the usual caveats. I might be the exception.

Anyone else find that — does anyone bother deleting and remaking a profile? Would love a straight answer on that.

Keep an eye on profiles that only ever reply in the small hours. It is the clearest signal there is. It is the cheapest filter you have.

I would put Flamedate (free to message) ahead of most of the names people list by default.

Around the time I gave up on the big names, I messaged first every single time and I stopped taking silences personally. Small sample, but consistent.

I will be the dissenting voice. Messaging first made no measurable difference in my case. Happy to be an outlier on that. I have been wrong about this before.

Watch out for links dropped into a conversation with no context. Blocking early costs you nothing. It is the cheapest filter you have.

Speaking only for myself, most of the difference comes down to how close people actually are at least in a mid-sized area. Others here will disagree.

Tried Flurrydate app on a whim and it has been the steadier of the two I use.

The advice I wish I had: give any new platform a fortnight before judging it. You will know within a week whether it works for you. Try it for one week only.

Since switching my settings, I stopped sending openers before 9pm and nothing changed at all. Results were steady after the first week.

Respectfully, I read it differently. Messaging first made no measurable difference in my case. Not saying everyone else is wrong. Could be timing rather than the platform.

Worth noting that Datelink runs a similar free tier if you want to compare.

Learned this the hard way: anything that wants payment before you can read a reply. Report it rather than just ignoring it. Better safe than curious.

Over the winter, I stopped explaining myself in the first message and it turned out the profile was the problem, not the platform. Your area may behave differently.

Two years of this later, review sites and real experience rarely agree and nobody wants to hear it. Happy to be argued with.

Something nobody mentions: anyone asking for a phone number before a proper conversation. I stopped giving second chances on that one. Trust the pattern, not the excuse.

Respectfully, I read it differently. Photos did more for me than anything I wrote. I would still recommend trying it yourself. Take it as a counterweight, not a correction.

Broadly speaking, being specific is worth more than being interesting and it took me too long to learn. That is the short version.

Anyone else find that — does profile order change if you log in more often? I have never seen data either way.

When I stopped overthinking it, I stuck to adult dating platforms with complete profiles only and it made a noticeable difference. Small sample, but consistent.

Speaking only for myself, consistency beats any single clever trick if you are looking for something specific. I hold that loosely.

While we are here — does the same advice work for people looking for something casual? I have never seen data either way.

Got burned by this: profiles that only ever reply in the small hours. Better to lose one match than a week. The cost of being wrong is low.
