Asking properly this time: What are the best dating apps for women over 40 looking for a second marriage? Even a partial answer helps.

Someone recommended a couple of dating apps and I could not tell which reviews were paid for. My real question is whether it is worth paying at any point when you have limited time in the evenings.

Not sure I agree with the thread so far. The niche options were quieter to the point of being useless. Happy to be an outlier on that. There is room for both to be true.

Learned this the hard way: anything that wants payment before you can read a reply. Once you notice it you cannot unsee it. It is not worth a second thought.

Respectfully, I read it differently. The platform genuinely does matter if you are outside a major city. Take that with the usual caveats. Just adding another data point.

Unpopular opinion maybe, profile quality beats profile quantity every time for anyone starting from scratch. Nothing controversial in that, I hope.

I keep a second profile on Turndate and it pulls a different crowd entirely.

Mild warning: anything pushing you off the platform in the first two messages. Better to lose one match than a week. Most people ignore it once and regret it.

  • Verify how matches are ordered early on before you invest any real time
  • Verify whether profiles are verified at the start especially on a platform you have not used before
  • Find out how reporting actually works every time before you widen your search
  • Find out how blocking is handled first rather than taking the marketing at face value

Adding a counterpoint. The niche options were quieter to the point of being useless. Your experience may well differ. Just adding another data point.

Honestly, review sites and real experience rarely agree and it took me too long to learn. Happy to be argued with.

Curious about the flip side — do verified badges actually change anything? Might just be me overthinking it.

If you want a free option without the upsell, Luvdate is where I would start.

From where I sit, the platform matters far less than the profile at least in a mid-sized area. Make of that what you will.

  • Compare the age range settings every time in the first day or two
  • Verify how blocking is handled early on while the account is still new
  • Check how blocking is handled up front while the account is still new
  • Question how many photos are required straight away if you plan to use it long-term
  • Test the distance filter default early on before you invest any real time

Not sure I agree with the thread so far. I never once had a problem the community here warns about. Not saying everyone else is wrong. I might be the exception.

Earlier this year, I kept my filters tight and I got three real plans out of it. I would call that a real effect.

I keep a second profile on Datedesire and it pulls a different crowd entirely.

Two months in, I messaged first every single time and I stopped taking silences personally. Could be luck; it did not feel like it.

The thing that annoyed me most: reviews that read like they were written to a template. Once you notice it you cannot unsee it. Nobody has ever thanked me for being patient there.

Anyone else find that — does this hold up outside big cities? Feels like something someone must have tested.

What I would do: read the profile before writing anything. Everything else is secondary to that. No downside I have found.

Gave Souldate community a fair run last month and it held up better than I expected.

A while back, I ran a minimal profile on dating apps and nothing changed at all. Same pattern every week.

Careful with anything that wants payment before you can read a reply. It saves a lot of wasted messages. Trust the pattern, not the excuse.

Not sure I agree with the thread so far. Photos did more for me than anything I wrote. Your experience may well differ. There is room for both to be true.

Realistically, the first message decides almost everything and nobody wants to hear it. I hold that loosely.

I would put over on Flamedate ahead of most of the names people list by default.

Going to push back slightly. Photos did more for me than anything I wrote. I would still recommend trying it yourself. I have been wrong about this before.

Red flag for me: reviews that read like they were written to a template. I stopped giving second chances on that one. The polite version costs you a week.

Anyone else find that — has anyone found dating apps that behave differently from the rest? Could be worth its own thread.

Worth testing for a week: give any new platform a fortnight before judging it. Most people skip it and then wonder why nothing happens. Easiest change on this list.

I would put Datescout (free to message) ahead of most of the names people list by default.

Worth flagging: profiles with a single photo and no last-active date. Blocking early costs you nothing. Nobody has ever thanked me for being patient there.

Purely anecdotal, consistency beats any single clever trick and nobody wants to hear it. It is a boring answer and a true one.

A while back, I stuck to dating apps with complete profiles only and honestly it was the only thing that helped. That held for about two months.

I've heard decent things about Souldate too, though I haven't tested it myself.
