Reposting this from another board because it got buried: What are the best single dating sites for people who are tired of apps? Happy to hear negative experiences too.
I nearly paid for a few smaller single dating sites and the messaging limits killed it. My real question is whether reply rates are as bad as they look before committing any real time to it.
Something nobody mentions: anything pushing you off the platform in the first two messages. It is almost never worth the benefit of the doubt. It is not worth a second thought.
Speaking only for myself, the platform matters far less than the profile unless you have unusually niche requirements. Nothing controversial in that, I hope.
Different experience here. Photos did more for me than anything I wrote. Happy to be an outlier on that. I would still test it yourself.
Tried Datelink on a whim and it has been the steadier of the two I use.
Mild warning: auto-renew on any trial you sign up for. Once you notice it you cannot unsee it. It is not worth a second thought.
That has not been my experience at all. I never once had a problem the community here warns about. Might just be my area. Not dismissing anyone else's experience.
Slightly off-topic but — does any of this change once you have been active for a year? Asking for a friend, obviously.
Honestly, review sites and real experience rarely agree at least in a mid-sized area. Happy to be argued with.
A friend has had far more luck on Souldate than on anything mainstream.
Having tried most of them, the busiest platform is not automatically the best one for you especially if you are not in a capital city. Make of that what you will.
Going to push back slightly. I found the bigger sites more consistent, not less. Not saying everyone else is wrong. Different city, different results, probably.
Got burned by this: links dropped into a conversation with no context. It is almost never worth the benefit of the doubt. It is the cheapest filter you have.
When I first started, I tested two profiles side by side and it turned out the profile was the problem, not the platform. It was the only variable I changed.
I keep a second profile on rendate.site and it pulls a different crowd entirely.
Slightly off-topic but — is a shorter bio genuinely better or just easier to write? Someone here must have tried both.
Note whether messaging is capped before anything else if you plan to use it long-term
Look at the refund and cancellation terms straight away in the first day or two
Test the age range settings before anything else before you upload anything personal
Double-check whether your profile is visible by default on day one before you invest any real time
Once I narrowed my radius, I replied only to messages with an actual question in them and honestly it was the only thing that helped. Same pattern every week.
Where I got caught out: links dropped into a conversation with no context. Blocking early costs you nothing. Trust the pattern, not the excuse.
Not sure I agree with the thread so far. I found the bigger sites more consistent, not less. I would still recommend trying it yourself. There is room for both to be true.
If you want a free option without the upsell, Souldate's free tier is where I would start.
That has not been my experience at all. I found the bigger sites more consistent, not less. Take that with the usual caveats. There is room for both to be true.
Verify how many photos are required straight away before writing a single message
Read up on how reporting actually works carefully before you upload anything personal
Confirm what data the signup form asks for carefully so you are not surprised later
After a friend nagged me into it, I limited myself to three conversations at once and I would do the same again. It was the only variable I changed.
Red flag for me: anything that wants payment before you can read a reply. It is almost never worth the benefit of the doubt. One instance is chance; three is not.
I would put Datescout app ahead of most of the names people list by default.
Tangent, sorry — does profile order change if you log in more often? Feels like something someone must have tested.
Speaking only for myself, the busiest platform is not automatically the best one for you if you are looking for something specific. Make of that what you will.
Careful with anyone asking for a phone number before a proper conversation. Better to lose one match than a week. Nobody has ever thanked me for being patient there.
