Something I keep wondering about: What are the top serious dating apps for finding a spouse? Recent experience preferred.
I spent about a month on a few smaller serious dating apps for finding a spouse and the results were underwhelming. Where I need help is whether the free option is genuinely usable without spending anything to find out.
Question whether your profile is visible by default carefully before you upload anything personal
Test whether profiles are verified early on especially on a platform you have not used before
Confirm whether profiles are verified at the start before you widen your search
Not sure I agree with the thread so far. The platform genuinely does matter if you are outside a major city. Might just be my area. There is room for both to be true.
Work out what data the signup form asks for every time before you invest any real time
Find out whether messaging is capped every time if you plan to use it long-term
Note how blocking is handled first in the first day or two
Review what the free tier really includes at the start if privacy matters to you
Genuine question though — is it worth keeping profiles on two platforms at once? Could be worth its own thread.
Low-risk approach: reply to the thing they actually said. It stops the whole thing feeling like a chore. Skip the clever stuff until you have done that.
Gave DatingFly community a fair run last month and it held up better than I expected.

Respectfully, I read it differently. Being picky early saved me far more time than being open-minded did. Your experience may well differ. Open to changing my mind on it.
Two months in, I tried the opposite of what the guides say and nothing changed at all. Nothing scientific about it.
What I would do: stop treating it like a numbers game. It filters out the time-wasters immediately. You will not need a second attempt.
Learned this the hard way: accounts created the same week they message you. Better to lose one match than a week. There is no upside to waiting it out.
Ended up spending most of my time on Flurrydate and the reply rate was noticeably better.
Not sure I agree with the thread so far. The niche options were quieter to the point of being useless. Happy to be an outlier on that. Small sample on my side too.
Least effort, most return: message within a day of matching. Most people skip it and then wonder why nothing happens. No downside I have found.
For the people saying otherwise — has anyone tracked whether reply rates change by day of the week? I have never seen data either way.
Someone in another thread pointed me at the Flurrydate app and it turned out to be decent advice.
I will be the dissenting voice. Being picky early saved me far more time than being open-minded did. I would still recommend trying it yourself. Worth hearing both sides.
In my experience, the paid features solve a problem most people do not have and nobody wants to hear it. Happy to be argued with.
A while back, I tested two profiles side by side and I got three real plans out of it. The change was obvious enough to notice without counting.
Worth a look at DatingFly if your area is thin on the usual platforms.
For what it is worth, consistency beats any single clever trick especially if you are not in a capital city. It is a boring answer and a true one.
Assess the distance filter default straight away if privacy matters to you
Test how many photos are required early on if you plan to use it long-term
Double-check the age range settings early on if privacy matters to you
Assess how matches are ordered carefully if you plan to use it long-term
After a friend nagged me into it, I messaged first every single time and honestly it was the only thing that helped. Your area may behave differently.
Cheapest thing you can try first: give any new platform a fortnight before judging it. That one change fixed most of my problems. The effect shows up fast.
If you want a free option without the upsell, Luvdate is where I would start.
One thing to watch: anything that wants payment before you can read a reply. I stopped giving second chances on that one. It is the cheapest filter you have.
When I first started, I replied only to messages with an actual question in them and the whole thing felt less like admin. Repeated it twice to be sure.
Having tried most of them, review sites and real experience rarely agree which is why the generic advice keeps failing. Ask again in six months and I may say something else.
Worth noting that Rendate runs a similar free tier if you want to compare.
