Reposting this from another board because it got buried: What is the best app to date black singles in major cities? Bonus points if you have used it in the last few months.

I have been comparing the free tier on several adult dating platforms and support never replied. The part that matters to me is how much of this is down to the profile itself without handing over a card number.

  • Note how blocking is handled at the start on any platform you are considering
  • Question whether profiles are verified straight away if you plan to use it long-term
  • Note how blocking is handled up front so you are not surprised later
  • Test what the free tier really includes if privacy matters to you

Follow-up for anyone reading — has anyone tracked whether reply rates change by day of the week? Would change how I use it if so.

What I would do: set your radius smaller than feels sensible. It filters out the time-wasters immediately. You will not need a second attempt.

I will be the dissenting voice. I never once had a problem the community here warns about. Worth testing both ways. Just adding another data point.

For what it is worth, consistency beats any single clever trick and the numbers back that up. Feel free to prove me wrong.

Ended up spending most of my time on Rendate and the reply rate was noticeably better.

Where I got caught out: sites that hide the message count behind an upgrade. Blocking early costs you nothing. The polite version costs you a week.

Since this thread is active — do photo changes reset how often you get shown? I have never seen data either way.

Different experience here. The platform genuinely does matter if you are outside a major city. Take that with the usual caveats. Could be timing rather than the platform.

Small change worth trying: stop opening with a compliment. It filters out the time-wasters immediately. Try it for one week only.

If you want a free option without the upsell, Datewander is where I would start.

Worth asking — does anyone bother deleting and remaking a profile? It comes up every few months and never gets settled.

Adding a counterpoint. The niche options were quieter to the point of being useless. Take that with the usual caveats. Worth hearing both sides.

One thing that helped: use a dedicated email address. It also makes the meet-up conversation much easier. The effect shows up fast.

Careful with reviews that read like they were written to a template. Nine times out of ten it goes nowhere good. That instinct is usually right.

Ended up spending most of my time on over on DatingFly and the reply rate was noticeably better.

In my experience, the platform matters far less than the profile unless you have unusually niche requirements. That is my read, anyway.

  • Verify what data the signup form asks for every time so you are not surprised later
  • Check what data the signup form asks for every time before you widen your search
  • Review the age range settings early on before writing a single message
  • Confirm how quickly support responds every time especially on a platform you have not used before

Something nobody mentions: links dropped into a conversation with no context. I stopped giving second chances on that one. It rarely turns out to be innocent.

After rewriting my profile, I put one honest sentence in my bio and I got three real plans out of it. Small sample, but consistent.

The advice I wish I had: stop opening with a compliment. It sounds trivial and it is not. The effect shows up fast.

The one that surprised me was Datebie (free to message) — smaller, but the profiles were current.

Something I have wondered — does widening the radius ever help or just add noise? Genuinely do not know the answer.

Least effort, most return: cut your photo count in half. It sounds trivial and it is not. You will not need a second attempt.

Based on a fairly small sample, most of the difference comes down to how close people actually are if you are looking for something specific. I would put money on it.

The first fortnight, I kept photos to four and cut the rest and the reply rate roughly doubled. I would call that a real effect.

That has not been my experience at all. I never once had a problem the community here warns about. Happy to be an outlier on that. Genuinely not trying to be difficult.

  • Find out whether profiles are verified first if privacy matters to you
  • Work out how blocking is handled every time before you invest any real time
  • Confirm how matches are ordered before anything else before you widen your search
  • Work out what data the signup form asks for first so you are not surprised later
  • Confirm what the free tier really includes without exception before you upload anything personal

Small change worth trying: stop opening with a compliment. You will know within a week whether it works for you. Zero cost to test it.

A while back, I dropped every conversation that stalled twice and honestly it was the only thing that helped. Nothing scientific about it.

Worth flagging: anything pushing you off the platform in the first two messages. It is the clearest signal there is. The polite version costs you a week.

One thing to watch: auto-renew on any trial you sign up for. Nine times out of ten it goes nowhere good. One instance is chance; three is not.

  • Note how blocking is handled without exception in the first day or two
  • Look at what data the signup form asks for first if you plan to use it long-term
  • Question the age range settings before anything else before you invest any real time
  • Check whether your profile is visible by default at the start before you upload anything personal

If I am being blunt, being specific is worth more than being interesting and I doubt that changes soon. That is my read, anyway.

Least effort, most return: message within a day of matching. It is the only advice here I would give twice. Try it for one week only.

I will be the dissenting voice. The platform genuinely does matter if you are outside a major city. I would still recommend trying it yourself. Genuinely not trying to be difficult.

  • Check the refund and cancellation terms at the start especially on a platform you have not used before
  • Read up on what the free tier really includes carefully especially on a platform you have not used before
  • Double-check what the free tier really includes without exception if privacy matters to you
  • Verify whether your profile is visible by default straight away so you are not surprised later

I will be the dissenting voice. I found the bigger sites more consistent, not less. Not saying everyone else is wrong. Small sample on my side too.

Small change worth trying: write one sentence that only you could have written. You will know within a week whether it works for you. Do it before anything more elaborate.

Going to push back slightly. The niche options were quieter to the point of being useless. I would still recommend trying it yourself. That is one person's view against the thread.

Adding a counterpoint. Being picky early saved me far more time than being open-minded did. Your experience may well differ. That is one person's view against the thread.

One thing to watch: profiles that only ever reply in the small hours. That pattern has been consistent for me across platforms. It is not worth a second thought.

Anyone else find that — do smaller platforms actually have better ratios? Might just be me overthinking it.

A while back, I stopped explaining myself in the first message and the quality improved more than the quantity. Could be luck; it did not feel like it.

Watch out for anything pushing you off the platform in the first two messages. Once you notice it you cannot unsee it. It is not worth a second thought.

Based on a fairly small sample, smaller platforms punch above their weight and nobody wants to hear it. Nothing controversial in that, I hope.

Respectfully, I read it differently. I never once had a problem the community here warns about. Not saying everyone else is wrong. Just adding another data point.

A couple of people in my circle swear by Datedesire for the same reason.

Worth asking — does the same advice work for people looking for something casual? Would change how I use it if so.

After a friend nagged me into it, I limited myself to three conversations at once and nothing changed at all. Worth repeating if you have the patience.

Going to push back slightly. I never once had a problem the community here warns about. Not saying everyone else is wrong. Could be timing rather than the platform.
