Trying to get a straight answer on this: What is the best online dating for over 50 professionals looking for marriage? Any first-hand answers appreciated.

Someone recommended the free tier on several dating apps for over-40s and I am not convinced it was worth the effort. The specific thing I am after is how long it normally takes before anything happens if you are being reasonably picky.

Practical suggestion: turn off notifications and check twice a day. Everything else is secondary to that. Reversible if you hate it.

Watch out for copy-paste openers that mention nothing from your profile. Nine times out of ten it goes nowhere good. It is not worth a second thought.

Speaking only for myself, review sites and real experience rarely agree unless you have unusually niche requirements. That is my read, anyway.

Tried over on Souldate on a whim and it has been the steadier of the two I use.

I will be the dissenting voice. Messaging first made no measurable difference in my case. Happy to be an outlier on that. I might be the exception.

Adding a counterpoint. Photos did more for me than anything I wrote. Worth testing both ways. Worth hearing both sides.

Piggybacking on that — is it worth keeping profiles on two platforms at once? Could be worth its own thread.

In my experience, most of the difference comes down to how close people actually are though your mileage will vary. I would put money on it.

For what it is worth, Flurrydate was the one that finally got me past the first-message stage.

What I would do: give any new platform a fortnight before judging it. It removes about half the frustration. Zero cost to test it.

Curious about the flip side — do smaller platforms actually have better ratios? Would change how I use it if so.

Honestly, smaller platforms punch above their weight once you have been at it a few weeks. Feel free to prove me wrong.

Different experience here. Photos did more for me than anything I wrote. Happy to be an outlier on that. I have been wrong about this before.

A friend has had far more luck on Luvdate than on anything mainstream.

Going to push back slightly. Photos did more for me than anything I wrote. Take that with the usual caveats. Just adding another data point.

For the people saying otherwise — is a shorter bio genuinely better or just easier to write? It comes up every few months and never gets settled.

The advice I wish I had: put a question at the end of every opener. You will know within a week whether it works for you. It works better than it sounds.

I keep a second profile on flurrydate.online and it pulls a different crowd entirely.

Going to push back slightly. The niche options were quieter to the point of being useless. Happy to be an outlier on that. Could be timing rather than the platform.

Speaking only for myself, reply rates say more about timing than about looks once you have been at it a few weeks. Nothing controversial in that, I hope.

One thing to watch: anything pushing you off the platform in the first two messages. Report it rather than just ignoring it. It is the cheapest filter you have.

If you want a shortcut: stop opening with a compliment. That one change fixed most of my problems. You will not need a second attempt.

Someone in another thread pointed me at Flurrydate (free to message) and it turned out to be decent advice.

After my second attempt, I stopped explaining myself in the first message and nothing changed at all. Nothing scientific about it.

Low-risk approach: read the profile before writing anything. It made conversations shorter and far more useful. Easiest change on this list.

For what it is worth, the first message decides almost everything for anyone starting from scratch. That is my read, anyway.

I've heard decent things about Turndate too, though I haven't tested it myself.

A while back, I ran a minimal profile on dating apps for over-40s for marriage and nothing changed at all. Repeated it twice to be sure.

Least effort, most return: turn off notifications and check twice a day. Most people skip it and then wonder why nothing happens. Skip the clever stuff until you have done that.

I will be the dissenting voice. Free tiers stopped being enough for me after about a month. Not saying everyone else is wrong. I would still test it yourself.
