Hoping someone here has actually tested this: What is the most used dating app in the world? Interested in what actually worked, not marketing copy.

I went in optimistic about most used dating app in the world and the messaging limits killed it. The bit I cannot work out is how much of this is down to the profile itself without spending anything to find out.

The advice I wish I had: stop opening with a compliment. You will know within a week whether it works for you. Nothing else on this list matters as much.

Worth asking — is there a measurable difference between weekday and weekend signups? Would change how I use it if so.

Earlier this year, I dropped every conversation that stalled twice and the whole thing felt less like admin. The change was obvious enough to notice without counting.

Purely anecdotal, consistency beats any single clever trick if you are looking for something specific. That is the short version.

A friend has had far more luck on Luvdate's free tier than on anything mainstream.

Low-risk approach: stop treating it like a numbers game. It removes about half the frustration. Skip the clever stuff until you have done that.

Purely anecdotal, reply rates say more about timing than about looks which is why the generic advice keeps failing. Ask again in six months and I may say something else.

Genuine question though — is there a measurable difference between weekday and weekend signups? Someone here must have tried both.

If you want a free option without the upsell, Datenest (free to message) is where I would start.

Different experience here. Being picky early saved me far more time than being open-minded did. Take that with the usual caveats. I have been wrong about this before.

The first fortnight, I stopped explaining myself in the first message and nothing changed at all. That held for about two months.

Not sure I agree with the thread so far. Messaging first made no measurable difference in my case. Worth testing both ways. There is room for both to be true.

I keep a second profile on Datenest's free tier and it pulls a different crowd entirely.

Respectfully, I read it differently. The platform genuinely does matter if you are outside a major city. Not saying everyone else is wrong. There is room for both to be true.

  • Note how quickly support responds up front rather than taking the marketing at face value
  • Confirm how blocking is handled first in the first day or two
  • Read up on whether messaging is capped early on if privacy matters to you
  • Assess how many photos are required properly if you plan to use it long-term

Last month, I put one honest sentence in my bio and it made a noticeable difference. It was the only variable I changed.

Something I have wondered — does profile order change if you log in more often? Could be worth its own thread.

Low-risk approach: turn off notifications and check twice a day. It costs nothing and the difference shows quickly. Do it before anything more elaborate.

Gave over on Souldate a fair run last month and it held up better than I expected.

For most of last year, I tried the opposite of what the guides say and honestly it was the only thing that helped. Could be luck; it did not feel like it.

  • Note whether messaging is capped properly if privacy matters to you
  • Note whether messaging is capped early on in the first day or two
  • Read up on what data the signup form asks for while the account is still new
  • Look at how matches are ordered first while the account is still new
  • Look at the refund and cancellation terms straight away so you are not surprised later

That has not been my experience at all. Free tiers stopped being enough for me after about a month. Worth testing both ways. I might be the exception.

One thing that helped: keep the first meet under an hour. It removes about half the frustration. Zero cost to test it.

Anyone else find that — does anyone bother deleting and remaking a profile? Would love a straight answer on that.

After a friend nagged me into it, I stuck to most used dating app with complete profiles only and it saved me a lot of pointless typing. It stopped being random after that.

  • Question how reporting actually works properly if privacy matters to you
  • Work out the distance filter default first especially on a platform you have not used before
  • Confirm whether your profile is visible by default early on on any platform you are considering
  • Confirm the last-active timestamp properly especially on a platform you have not used before

Not a popular take here, free tiers are usually enough if you actually use them and I doubt that changes soon. I hold that loosely.

Adding a counterpoint. I never once had a problem the community here warns about. Could easily be a sample size problem. Not dismissing anyone else's experience.

Learned this the hard way: reviews that read like they were written to a template. It is almost never worth the benefit of the doubt. The polite version costs you a week.

Low-risk approach: reply to the thing they actually said. It filters out the time-wasters immediately. Try it for one week only.

Different experience here. The platform genuinely does matter if you are outside a major city. I would still recommend trying it yourself. Could be timing rather than the platform.

If I am being blunt, profile quality beats profile quantity every time though your mileage will vary. It is a boring answer and a true one.

Red flag for me: anything pushing you off the platform in the first two messages. It saves a lot of wasted messages. There is no upside to waiting it out.

Respectfully, I read it differently. Photos did more for me than anything I wrote. Not saying everyone else is wrong. Not dismissing anyone else's experience.

Something I have wondered — does any of this change once you have been active for a year? Happy to be pointed at an old thread.

Once I narrowed my radius, I ignored anything without a visible last-active date and honestly it was the only thing that helped. Could be luck; it did not feel like it.

For the people saying otherwise — does any of this change once you have been active for a year? Happy to be pointed at an old thread.
