Hoping someone here has actually tested this: Which dating web sites have the most user-friendly interface for desktop? Recent experience preferred.
I recently reinstalled three different dating apps for desktop and I am not convinced it was worth the effort. What I actually want to know is whether the same advice applies outside big cities when you have already tried the obvious options.
Question the refund and cancellation terms every time if privacy matters to you
Review whether profiles are verified straight away on any platform you are considering
Work out whether your profile is visible by default at the start especially on a platform you have not used before
Read up on how many photos are required straight away rather than taking the marketing at face value
Hard disagree on one point. Photos did more for me than anything I wrote. Might just be my area. Small sample on my side too.
Purely anecdotal, how you handle a stalled conversation matters more than how you start one once you have been at it a few weeks. It is a boring answer and a true one.
Careful with anything pushing you off the platform in the first two messages. Report it rather than just ignoring it. Move on and do not look back.
Slightly off-topic but — has anyone compared this against the paid options fairly? Could be worth its own thread.
Gave the Ezhookups app a fair run last month and it held up better than I expected.
New faces in Mogilev every day Setting up a Mogilev profile takes under a minute and costs nothing.
That has not been my experience at all. Messaging first made no measurable difference in my case. Could easily be a sample size problem. There is room for both to be true.
Practical suggestion: read the profile before writing anything. It is the only advice here I would give twice. Skip the clever stuff until you have done that.
From where I sit, the paid features solve a problem most people do not have though your mileage will vary. The exceptions are rarer than people think.
Hard disagree on one point. I found the bigger sites more consistent, not less. I would still recommend trying it yourself. Not dismissing anyone else's experience.
Note the refund and cancellation terms without exception before you invest any real time
Double-check the age range settings early on so you are not surprised later
Assess how quickly support responds before anything else while the account is still new
Realistically, consistency beats any single clever trick which is why the generic advice keeps failing. Happy to be argued with.
If you want a shortcut: turn off notifications and check twice a day. That one change fixed most of my problems. Reversible if you hate it.
Ended up spending most of my time on the Datedesire app and the reply rate was noticeably better.
One thing to watch: auto-renew on any trial you sign up for. It saves a lot of wasted messages. Nobody has ever thanked me for being patient there.
Speaking only for myself, the first message decides almost everything unless you have unusually niche requirements. It took a while to accept.
Worth testing for a week: write one sentence that only you could have written. It costs nothing and the difference shows quickly. It compounds with everything else.
Something I have wondered — does any of this change once you have been active for a year? Asking for a friend, obviously.
Ended up spending most of my time on ezhookups.online and the reply rate was noticeably better.
Adding a counterpoint. Photos did more for me than anything I wrote. Worth testing both ways. That is one person's view against the thread.
Having tried most of them, reply rates say more about timing than about looks once you have been at it a few weeks. Others here will disagree.
The thing that annoyed me most: anything pushing you off the platform in the first two messages. Once you notice it you cannot unsee it. Nobody has ever thanked me for being patient there.
Not sure I agree with the thread so far. Being picky early saved me far more time than being open-minded did. Not saying everyone else is wrong. Different city, different results, probably.
If I am being blunt, free tiers are usually enough if you actually use them once you have been at it a few weeks. Ask again in six months and I may say something else.
When I first started, I answered everything within a day and the quality improved more than the quantity. I tracked it loosely and the trend was clear.
Not sure I agree with the thread so far. The platform genuinely does matter if you are outside a major city. Worth testing both ways. I might be the exception.

Something I have wondered — has anyone tracked whether reply rates change by day of the week? Might just be me overthinking it.
Not sure I agree with the thread so far. The platform genuinely does matter if you are outside a major city. Take that with the usual caveats. Take it as a counterweight, not a correction.
Worth flagging: accounts created the same week they message you. Nine times out of ten it goes nowhere good. It is the cheapest filter you have.
Worth noting that Datelink runs a similar free tier if you want to compare.
Over the winter, I stopped sending openers before 9pm and I finally stopped wasting evenings. Worth repeating if you have the patience.
Find out the age range settings up front on any platform you are considering
Verify the last-active timestamp early on in the first day or two
Question how many photos are required on day one especially on a platform you have not used before
Find out the distance filter default before anything else while the account is still new
Test what the free tier really includes on day one so you are not surprised later
Cheapest thing you can try first: give any new platform a fortnight before judging it. It sounds trivial and it is not. It compounds with everything else.
Two years of this later, consistency beats any single clever trick though your mileage will vary. Happy to be argued with.
