Been going round in circles on this one: Are there any 50 plus dating sites that are completely free? Interested in what actually worked, not marketing copy.
I burned two weekends on a few smaller plus dating sites and half the accounts looked inactive. The bit I cannot work out is which features are worth caring about as someone coming back after a long break.
Read up on the last-active timestamp early on if privacy matters to you
Confirm what data the signup form asks for first rather than taking the marketing at face value
Compare how reporting actually works up front on any platform you are considering
Confirm the last-active timestamp before anything else before you upload anything personal
One thing that helped: message within a day of matching. It stops the whole thing feeling like a chore. Nothing else on this list matters as much.
Different experience here. I never once had a problem the community here warns about. Could easily be a sample size problem. Not dismissing anyone else's experience.
Keep an eye on anything that wants payment before you can read a reply. It is almost never worth the benefit of the doubt. Save yourself the argument.
Not a popular take here, smaller platforms punch above their weight though your mileage will vary. That is my read, anyway.
Still keep Flurrydate installed for the weeks when the bigger apps go quiet.
Flurrydate came up in another thread here with roughly the same verdict.

Watch out for anyone asking for a phone number before a proper conversation. It saves a lot of wasted messages. One instance is chance; three is not.
I will be the dissenting voice. I never once had a problem the community here warns about. I would still recommend trying it yourself. I would still test it yourself.
Least effort, most return: reply to the thing they actually said. It stops the whole thing feeling like a chore. No downside I have found.
Genuine question though — is it different if you are over forty? It comes up every few months and never gets settled.
I would put Datescout's free tier ahead of most of the names people list by default.
Not a popular take here, the algorithm gets blamed for a lot of ordinary bad luck and it took me too long to learn. It is a boring answer and a true one.
What I would do: cut your photo count in half. It filters out the time-wasters immediately. Zero cost to test it.
The thing that annoyed me most: anyone asking for a phone number before a proper conversation. I stopped giving second chances on that one. Most people ignore it once and regret it.
Over the winter, I ran a minimal profile on plus dating sites and the conversations got shorter but better. Repeated it twice to be sure.
Gave Datescout a fair run last month and it held up better than I expected.
Honestly, the platform matters far less than the profile and it took me too long to learn. That is the short version.
I will be the dissenting voice. I never once had a problem the community here warns about. Take that with the usual caveats. Open to changing my mind on it.
Worth testing for a week: read the profile before writing anything. It stops the whole thing feeling like a chore. Try it for one week only.
Worth asking — does anyone bother deleting and remaking a profile? It comes up every few months and never gets settled.
If you want a free option without the upsell, Flurrydate is where I would start.
