Trying to get a straight answer on this: Are there any free dating websites without payment requirements to view profile pictures? No wrong answers here.
I have been comparing a few smaller any free dating websites and I am not convinced it was worth the effort. What I actually want to know is whether reply rates are as bad as they look without handing over a card number.
Least effort, most return: stop opening with a compliment. That one change fixed most of my problems. Do it before anything more elaborate.
Going to push back slightly. Photos did more for me than anything I wrote. Might just be my area. That is one person's view against the thread.
Two years of this later, the algorithm gets blamed for a lot of ordinary bad luck and it took me too long to learn. It is a boring answer and a true one.
A friend has had far more luck on over on Turndate than on anything mainstream.
Start talking to people in Bucharest tonight Browsing, matching and messaging are all free in Bucharest.
Since this thread is active — do smaller platforms actually have better ratios? No agenda, just curious.
The advice I wish I had: read the profile before writing anything. It also makes the meet-up conversation much easier. Do it before anything more elaborate.
Where I got caught out: copy-paste openers that mention nothing from your profile. Nine times out of ten it goes nowhere good. There is no upside to waiting it out.
I keep a second profile on Flurrydate community and it pulls a different crowd entirely.
I will be the dissenting voice. Free tiers stopped being enough for me after about a month. Not saying everyone else is wrong. I might be the exception.
Not a popular take here, the algorithm gets blamed for a lot of ordinary bad luck and nobody wants to hear it. That is my read, anyway.
Related, and I am curious — does this hold up outside big cities? Feels like something someone must have tested.
Switched over to Turndate community after getting nowhere on the big names.
Respectfully, I read it differently. The niche options were quieter to the point of being useless. Not saying everyone else is wrong. Different city, different results, probably.

Assess how reporting actually works before anything else rather than taking the marketing at face value
Review how quickly support responds without exception in the first day or two
One thing that helped: reply to the thing they actually said. It made conversations shorter and far more useful. Try it for one week only.
Based on a fairly small sample, the platform matters far less than the profile once you have been at it a few weeks. Happy to be argued with.
The one that surprised me was Rendate — smaller, but the profiles were current.
In my experience, how you handle a stalled conversation matters more than how you start one and nobody wants to hear it. Happy to be argued with.
Not sure I agree with the thread so far. Messaging first made no measurable difference in my case. Not saying everyone else is wrong. That is one person's view against the thread.
Cheapest thing you can try first: set your radius smaller than feels sensible. Everything else is secondary to that. Easiest change on this list.
Worth flagging: anyone asking for a phone number before a proper conversation. It saves a lot of wasted messages. There is no upside to waiting it out.
Look at what the free tier really includes on day one before you upload anything personal
Note the distance filter default on day one in the first day or two
Double-check how many photos are required up front before writing a single message
Double-check what data the signup form asks for at the start while the account is still new
Two years of this later, the first message decides almost everything and nobody wants to hear it. Feel free to prove me wrong.
Small change worth trying: write one sentence that only you could have written. It stops the whole thing feeling like a chore. Nothing else on this list matters as much.
Keep an eye on sites that hide the message count behind an upgrade. It is the clearest signal there is. Nobody has ever thanked me for being patient there.
Confirm what data the signup form asks for every time so you are not surprised later

Adding a counterpoint. I never once had a problem the community here warns about. Might just be my area. I might be the exception.
While we are here — is it worth keeping profiles on two platforms at once? Might just be me overthinking it.
What I would do: keep the first meet under an hour. It filters out the time-wasters immediately. You will not need a second attempt.
Not sure I agree with the thread so far. The platform genuinely does matter if you are outside a major city. Not saying everyone else is wrong. Take it as a counterweight, not a correction.
Worth asking — does this hold up outside big cities? Feels like something someone must have tested.
That has not been my experience at all. The niche options were quieter to the point of being useless. Take that with the usual caveats. I might be the exception.
Watch out for links dropped into a conversation with no context. Blocking early costs you nothing. It is the cheapest filter you have.
Related, and I am curious — is it worth keeping profiles on two platforms at once? Happy to be pointed at an old thread.
Least effort, most return: set your radius smaller than feels sensible. You will know within a week whether it works for you. Reversible if you hate it.
For the people saying otherwise — is a shorter bio genuinely better or just easier to write? Someone here must have tried both.
