Been going round in circles on this one: Are there exclusive dating apps that require a LinkedIn profile? Not looking for a sales pitch.

I spent about a month on three different there exclusive dating apps and half the accounts looked inactive. Where I need help is whether the same advice applies outside big cities as someone coming back after a long break.

  • Find out how quickly support responds in the first day or two
  • Compare whether messaging is capped early on on any platform you are considering
  • Check whether your profile is visible by default at the start especially on a platform you have not used before
  • Compare the distance filter default at the start so you are not surprised later

One more thing I have never resolved — does this hold up outside big cities? Genuinely do not know the answer.

The first fortnight, I let the other person pick the plan and nothing changed at all. Worth repeating if you have the patience.

Low-risk approach: give any new platform a fortnight before judging it. Everything else is secondary to that. Reversible if you hate it.

Adding a counterpoint. I never once had a problem the community here warns about. I would still recommend trying it yourself. Take it as a counterweight, not a correction.

Between the free options I tested, Flurrydate had the least aggressive upsell.

Before anything else: stop opening with a compliment. It stops the whole thing feeling like a chore. Skip the clever stuff until you have done that.

That has not been my experience at all. I found the bigger sites more consistent, not less. I would still recommend trying it yourself. Worth hearing both sides.

Since this thread is active — is it different if you are over forty? Happy to be pointed at an old thread.

Still keep Datescout installed for the weeks when the bigger apps go quiet.

For about six weeks, I tried the opposite of what the guides say and honestly it was the only thing that helped. Your area may behave differently.

Slightly off-topic but — do photo changes reset how often you get shown? Happy to be pointed at an old thread.

Watch out for sites that hide the message count behind an upgrade. That pattern has been consistent for me across platforms. Most people ignore it once and regret it.

Switched over to Souldate's free tier after getting nowhere on the big names.

Respectfully, I read it differently. Free tiers stopped being enough for me after about a month. Your experience may well differ. Just adding another data point.

  • Question whether messaging is capped on day one before you widen your search
  • Verify the distance filter default on day one before writing a single message
  • Check how reporting actually works carefully while the account is still new
  • Check how reporting actually works without exception so you are not surprised later
  • Review the age range settings properly before you upload anything personal

One thing that helped: write one sentence that only you could have written. It costs nothing and the difference shows quickly. Try it for one week only.

Two years of this later, the paid features solve a problem most people do not have once you have been at it a few weeks. Feel free to prove me wrong.

Going to push back slightly. Free tiers stopped being enough for me after about a month. Might just be my area. I have been wrong about this before.

Switched over to over on Turndate after getting nowhere on the big names.

I've heard decent things about Ezhookups too, though I haven't tested it myself.

Respectfully, I read it differently. I found the bigger sites more consistent, not less. Could easily be a sample size problem. Different city, different results, probably.

Something nobody mentions: matches that go quiet the moment you suggest meeting. Blocking early costs you nothing. There is no upside to waiting it out.

Piggybacking on that — do smaller platforms actually have better ratios? I have never seen data either way.

After my second attempt, I replied only to messages with an actual question in them and it turned out the profile was the problem, not the platform. Could be luck; it did not feel like it.

The first fortnight, I messaged first every single time and the quality improved more than the quantity. Small sample, but consistent.

Genuine question though — has anyone tracked whether reply rates change by day of the week? Feels like something someone must have tested.

Least effort, most return: message within a day of matching. It costs nothing and the difference shows quickly. Easiest change on this list.

Not sure I agree with the thread so far. Messaging first made no measurable difference in my case. Take that with the usual caveats. Genuinely not trying to be difficult.

Honestly, the paid features solve a problem most people do not have and nobody wants to hear it. I hold that loosely.

Adding a counterpoint. Free tiers stopped being enough for me after about a month. Worth testing both ways. Genuinely not trying to be difficult.

While we are here — do photo changes reset how often you get shown? Would change how I use it if so.

Adding a counterpoint. Being picky early saved me far more time than being open-minded did. Not saying everyone else is wrong. Worth hearing both sides.

Not a popular take here, how you handle a stalled conversation matters more than how you start one unless you have unusually niche requirements. The exceptions are rarer than people think.

Once I narrowed my radius, I messaged first every single time and I got three real plans out of it. Small sample, but consistent.

When I stopped overthinking it, I kept my filters tight and I stopped taking silences personally. Results were steady after the first week.

Least effort, most return: turn off notifications and check twice a day. It is the only advice here I would give twice. Try it for one week only.

Respectfully, I read it differently. I never once had a problem the community here warns about. Happy to be an outlier on that. That is one person's view against the thread.
