Trying to get a straight answer on this: How do I hide my facebook dating profile from my coworkers? Happy to hear negative experiences too.

I have been comparing a few smaller dating profiles and it got expensive fast. Where I need help is whether it is worth paying at any point without making it a second job.

That has not been my experience at all. Being picky early saved me far more time than being open-minded did. Your experience may well differ. Take it as a counterweight, not a correction.

  • Read up on the age range settings on day one before you widen your search
  • Verify the last-active timestamp on day one in the first day or two
  • Verify how quickly support responds at the start so you are not surprised later

Something I have wondered — do smaller platforms actually have better ratios? Could be worth its own thread.

Once I narrowed my radius, I messaged first every single time and the difference showed up within a week. Results were steady after the first week.

Not sure I agree with the thread so far. Messaging first made no measurable difference in my case. Could easily be a sample size problem. Genuinely not trying to be difficult.

Tried flamedate.online on a whim and it has been the steadier of the two I use.

Anyone else find that — is it worth keeping profiles on two platforms at once? It comes up every few months and never gets settled.

From where I sit, how you handle a stalled conversation matters more than how you start one and the numbers back that up. Happy to be argued with.

Not sure I agree with the thread so far. Being picky early saved me far more time than being open-minded did. Could easily be a sample size problem. I would still test it yourself.

Worth a look at rendate.site if your area is thin on the usual platforms.

Got burned by this: sites that hide the message count behind an upgrade. Better to lose one match than a week. It rarely turns out to be innocent.

What I would do: keep the first meet under an hour. It sounds trivial and it is not. No downside I have found.

If I am being blunt, most of the difference comes down to how close people actually are for anyone starting from scratch. Nothing controversial in that, I hope.

Someone in another thread pointed me at Luvdate and it turned out to be decent advice.

After rewriting my profile, I tried the opposite of what the guides say and matches started coming from closer by. I tracked it loosely and the trend was clear.

Least effort, most return: cut your photo count in half. It stops the whole thing feeling like a chore. You will not need a second attempt.

Genuine question though — do verified badges actually change anything? Happy to be pointed at an old thread.

Ended up spending most of my time on DatingFly app and the reply rate was noticeably better.

That has not been my experience at all. The platform genuinely does matter if you are outside a major city. I would still recommend trying it yourself. Could be timing rather than the platform.

One thing that helped: read the profile before writing anything. It costs nothing and the difference shows quickly. You will not need a second attempt.

Having tried most of them, the platform matters far less than the profile and nobody wants to hear it. I would put money on it.

Slightly off-topic but — does this hold up outside big cities? Would change how I use it if so.

Red flag for me: auto-renew on any trial you sign up for. Better to lose one match than a week. One instance is chance; three is not.

What I would do: message within a day of matching. You will know within a week whether it works for you. Easiest change on this list.

Broadly speaking, profile quality beats profile quantity every time at least in a mid-sized area. Ask again in six months and I may say something else.

Going to push back slightly. The niche options were quieter to the point of being useless. Worth testing both ways. Genuinely not trying to be difficult.

Since switching my settings, I stuck to dating profiles with complete profiles only and I finally stopped wasting evenings. Repeated it twice to be sure.

Related, and I am curious — is a shorter bio genuinely better or just easier to write? Asking for a friend, obviously.

Purely anecdotal, review sites and real experience rarely agree and nobody wants to hear it. I hold that loosely.

Broadly speaking, consistency beats any single clever trick for anyone starting from scratch. The exceptions are rarer than people think.

  • Test the refund and cancellation terms on day one on any platform you are considering
  • Double-check what data the signup form asks for first in the first day or two
  • Compare whether your profile is visible by default properly while the account is still new
  • Work out what data the signup form asks for straight away before writing a single message

Where I got caught out: profiles that only ever reply in the small hours. Better to lose one match than a week. There is no upside to waiting it out.

Worth asking — does any of this change once you have been active for a year? Would love a straight answer on that.

Adding a counterpoint. Being picky early saved me far more time than being open-minded did. Not saying everyone else is wrong. I might be the exception.

Genuine question though — do photo changes reset how often you get shown? Could be worth its own thread.

The thing that annoyed me most: profiles that only ever reply in the small hours. Once you notice it you cannot unsee it. The cost of being wrong is low.
