Trying to get a straight answer on this: Do active dating chat rooms still exist or is it all swipe-based apps now? Bonus points if you have used it in the last few months.
I stopped bothering with the most recommended active dating chat rooms and I am not convinced it was worth the effort. What nobody seems to answer is whether the newer options are any better than the established ones if you are not in a major city.
After rewriting my profile, I messaged first every single time and it made a noticeable difference. It was the only variable I changed.
Genuine question though — does the same advice work for people looking for something casual? Happy to be pointed at an old thread.
Got burned by this: anything pushing you off the platform in the first two messages. It is the clearest signal there is. That instinct is usually right.
Someone in another thread pointed me at flurrydate.online and it turned out to be decent advice.
A couple of people in my circle swear by Flamedate for the same reason.

Hard disagree on one point. Messaging first made no measurable difference in my case. Happy to be an outlier on that. Could be timing rather than the platform.
Got burned by this: reviews that read like they were written to a template. That pattern has been consistent for me across platforms. Save yourself the argument.
In my experience, the platform matters far less than the profile at least in a mid-sized area. Feel free to prove me wrong.
I keep a second profile on over on Datedesire and it pulls a different crowd entirely.
Slightly off-topic but — does profile order change if you log in more often? Might just be me overthinking it.
Earlier this year, I ignored anything without a visible last-active date and it turned out the profile was the problem, not the platform. I would call that a real effect.
Honestly, smaller platforms punch above their weight once you have been at it a few weeks. It took a while to accept.
Someone in another thread pointed me at the Rendate app and it turned out to be decent advice.
Anyone else find that — has anyone tracked whether reply rates change by day of the week? Someone here must have tried both.
When I first started, I stopped sending openers before 9pm and the conversations got shorter but better. It stopped being random after that.
Watch out for anything that wants payment before you can read a reply. Better to lose one match than a week. Better safe than curious.
Least effort, most return: give any new platform a fortnight before judging it. It made conversations shorter and far more useful. Nothing else on this list matters as much.
Related, and I am curious — does this hold up outside big cities? Could be worth its own thread.
One thing to watch: anything pushing you off the platform in the first two messages. Nine times out of ten it goes nowhere good. Nobody has ever thanked me for being patient there.
Going to push back slightly. Photos did more for me than anything I wrote. Your experience may well differ. I have been wrong about this before.
