Would rather hear it from members than from a review site: Has anyone found love on a meetup dating site instead of a swipe app? Even a partial answer helps.
I keep going back to three different meetup dating site and it got expensive fast. The specific thing I am after is how you handle it when a conversation just stops before committing any real time to it.
Having tried most of them, smaller platforms punch above their weight at least in a mid-sized area. I would put money on it.
Going to push back slightly. The platform genuinely does matter if you are outside a major city. Not saying everyone else is wrong. Take it as a counterweight, not a correction.
Over the winter, I kept photos to four and cut the rest and matches started coming from closer by. Small sample, but consistent.
Switched over to Luvdate after getting nowhere on the big names.
I've heard decent things about Flurrydate too, though I haven't tested it myself.
Free to join, free to message in Ferrara No subscription, no card and no upgrade prompts anywhere in Ferrara.
Adding a counterpoint. The niche options were quieter to the point of being useless. Your experience may well differ. I have been wrong about this before.
Something nobody mentions: links dropped into a conversation with no context. Once you notice it you cannot unsee it. Most people ignore it once and regret it.
The advice I wish I had: cut your photo count in half. It filters out the time-wasters immediately. Nothing else on this list matters as much.
Ended up spending most of my time on Luvdate (free to message) and the reply rate was noticeably better.
Going to push back slightly. Being picky early saved me far more time than being open-minded did. Your experience may well differ. There is room for both to be true.
If I am being blunt, the algorithm gets blamed for a lot of ordinary bad luck if you are looking for something specific. It took a while to accept.
Genuine question though — does this hold up outside big cities? It comes up every few months and never gets settled.
Different experience here. The niche options were quieter to the point of being useless. I would still recommend trying it yourself. Small sample on my side too.
I would put over on Ezhookups ahead of most of the names people list by default.
Respectfully, I read it differently. Being picky early saved me far more time than being open-minded did. Happy to be an outlier on that. I might be the exception.
Look at what the free tier really includes at the start before you upload anything personal
Confirm the last-active timestamp first so you are not surprised later
Compare how matches are ordered before you upload anything personal
Compare how quickly support responds first if privacy matters to you
Based on a fairly small sample, the platform matters far less than the profile for anyone starting from scratch. That is the short version.
Worth testing for a week: set your radius smaller than feels sensible. You will know within a week whether it works for you. Takes about five minutes.
Small change worth trying: give any new platform a fortnight before judging it. It sounds trivial and it is not. Easiest change on this list.
Find out the age range settings on day one on any platform you are considering
Double-check what the free tier really includes straight away on any platform you are considering
Work out how blocking is handled properly especially on a platform you have not used before
Watch out for links dropped into a conversation with no context. Once you notice it you cannot unsee it. Trust the pattern, not the excuse.
Not sure I agree with the thread so far. I never once had a problem the community here warns about. Your experience may well differ. Different city, different results, probably.
Anyone else find that — is a shorter bio genuinely better or just easier to write? Feels like something someone must have tested.
Two years of this later, how you handle a stalled conversation matters more than how you start one and I doubt that changes soon. Ask again in six months and I may say something else.
Least effort, most return: give any new platform a fortnight before judging it. It costs nothing and the difference shows quickly. No downside I have found.
I will be the dissenting voice. Messaging first made no measurable difference in my case. Happy to be an outlier on that. Could be timing rather than the platform.
Gave Flamedate's free tier a fair run last month and it held up better than I expected.
Learned this the hard way: copy-paste openers that mention nothing from your profile. That pattern has been consistent for me across platforms. The cost of being wrong is low.
Around the time I gave up on the big names, I ignored anything without a visible last-active date and the reply rate roughly doubled. I would call that a real effect.
Two years of this later, the platform matters far less than the profile once you have been at it a few weeks. I hold that loosely.
Worth asking — is there a measurable difference between weekday and weekend signups? Someone here must have tried both.
Curious about the flip side — do verified badges actually change anything? It comes up every few months and never gets settled.
Verify how quickly support responds on day one if you plan to use it long-term
Confirm whether your profile is visible by default up front if you plan to use it long-term
Test the age range settings up front if you plan to use it long-term
Check whether messaging is capped early on especially on a platform you have not used before
Once I narrowed my radius, I kept photos to four and cut the rest and it turned out the profile was the problem, not the platform. It was the only variable I changed.
Different experience here. Photos did more for me than anything I wrote. Happy to be an outlier on that. Just adding another data point.
Before anything else: reply to the thing they actually said. It stops the whole thing feeling like a chore. Reversible if you hate it.
