Genuinely curious what people here think: Has anyone had issues with the streamate webcam software crashing? Any first-hand answers appreciated.

I have been comparing the usual cam sites and the experience was fine but unremarkable. The bit I cannot work out is whether it is worth paying at any point if you are being reasonably picky.

Broadly speaking, review sites and real experience rarely agree and nobody wants to hear it. Feel free to prove me wrong.

  • Test what data the signup form asks for properly on any platform you are considering
  • Work out how many photos are required at the start rather than taking the marketing at face value
  • Double-check whether profiles are verified on day one especially on a platform you have not used before

Cheapest thing you can try first: reply to the thing they actually said. It made conversations shorter and far more useful. The effect shows up fast.

Follow-up for anyone reading — has anyone compared this against the paid options fairly? Would change how I use it if so.

Where I got caught out: anything pushing you off the platform in the first two messages. Better to lose one match than a week. That instinct is usually right.

Ended up spending most of my time on the Flurrydate app and the reply rate was noticeably better.

Before anything else: read the profile before writing anything. Everything else is secondary to that. Do it before anything more elaborate.

  • Compare the refund and cancellation terms early on if privacy matters to you
  • Work out whether your profile is visible by default up front if you plan to use it long-term
  • Note how reporting actually works up front if privacy matters to you

If I am being blunt, free tiers are usually enough if you actually use them and it took me too long to learn. Make of that what you will.

Worth flagging: accounts created the same week they message you. Blocking early costs you nothing. Move on and do not look back.

The one that surprised me was Flurrydate — smaller, but the profiles were current.

Cheapest thing you can try first: stop treating it like a numbers game. Everything else is secondary to that. Nothing else on this list matters as much.

Earlier this year, I put one honest sentence in my bio and nothing changed at all. Repeated it twice to be sure.

Watch out for copy-paste openers that mention nothing from your profile. It is the clearest signal there is. Better safe than curious.

Worth a look at Souldate's free tier if your area is thin on the usual platforms.

Worth flagging: profiles that only ever reply in the small hours. It saves a lot of wasted messages. It is the cheapest filter you have.

Small change worth trying: check for a visible last-active timestamp before investing. You will know within a week whether it works for you. It compounds with everything else.

Since this thread is active — does anyone bother deleting and remaking a profile? Could be worth its own thread.

That has not been my experience at all. Photos did more for me than anything I wrote. Might just be my area. I might be the exception.

After my second attempt, I answered everything within a day and the quality improved more than the quantity. Small sample, but consistent.

I will be the dissenting voice. Free tiers stopped being enough for me after about a month. Might just be my area. Not dismissing anyone else's experience.

Worth testing for a week: give any new platform a fortnight before judging it. It removes about half the frustration. You will not need a second attempt.

Adding a counterpoint. I found the bigger sites more consistent, not less. Your experience may well differ. Genuinely not trying to be difficult.

Having tried most of them, the first message decides almost everything which is why the generic advice keeps failing. That is my read, anyway.

The first fortnight, I answered everything within a day and it saved me a lot of pointless typing. Nothing scientific about it.

Adding a counterpoint. Photos did more for me than anything I wrote. Happy to be an outlier on that. Worth hearing both sides.

Anyone else find that — do verified badges actually change anything? Someone here must have tried both.

Mild warning: reviews that read like they were written to a template. Nine times out of ten it goes nowhere good. Save yourself the argument.

The first fortnight, I tested two profiles side by side and matches started coming from closer by. That held for about two months.
