I have been comparing a few smaller dating apps and I still cannot tell if it is me or the platform. What nobody seems to answer is whether the same advice applies outside big cities without making it a second job.

If I am being blunt, the busiest platform is not automatically the best one for you at least in a mid-sized area. Others here will disagree.

Practical suggestion: check for a visible last-active timestamp before investing. It also makes the meet-up conversation much easier. Reversible if you hate it.

Honestly, profile quality beats profile quantity every time for anyone starting from scratch. That is my read, anyway.
Ended up spending most of my time on Rendate's free tier and the reply rate was noticeably better.
Mild warning: accounts created the same week they message you. Nine times out of ten it goes nowhere good. Nobody has ever thanked me for being patient there.
