Would rather hear it from members than from a review site: How many dating websites does the average person use at once? Details matter more than opinions here.

Someone recommended three different how many dating websites and I want to know if that is normal. What would settle this for me is how long it normally takes before anything happens if you are being reasonably picky.

  • Question what data the signup form asks for without exception especially on a platform you have not used before
  • Look at the last-active timestamp every time before you invest any real time
  • Verify what data the signup form asks for without exception if privacy matters to you
  • Verify the age range settings early on so you are not surprised later

Adding a counterpoint. Free tiers stopped being enough for me after about a month. Could easily be a sample size problem. I have been wrong about this before.

Adding a counterpoint. I found the bigger sites more consistent, not less. Happy to be an outlier on that. I would still test it yourself.

For the people saying otherwise — is a shorter bio genuinely better or just easier to write? It comes up every few months and never gets settled.

Purely anecdotal, consistency beats any single clever trick and the numbers back that up. Feel free to prove me wrong.

I would put over on Datewander ahead of most of the names people list by default.

Tangent, sorry — does profile order change if you log in more often? Feels like something someone must have tested.

I will be the dissenting voice. Free tiers stopped being enough for me after about a month. Happy to be an outlier on that. Open to changing my mind on it.

Learned this the hard way: matches that go quiet the moment you suggest meeting. Once you notice it you cannot unsee it. Save yourself the argument.

The first fortnight, I ran a minimal profile on how many dating websites and the difference showed up within a week. Your area may behave differently.

A friend has had far more luck on datewander.site than on anything mainstream.

Something I have wondered — has anyone compared this against the paid options fairly? Might just be me overthinking it.

What I would do: keep the first meet under an hour. It also makes the meet-up conversation much easier. The effect shows up fast.

Having tried most of them, most of the difference comes down to how close people actually are and I doubt that changes soon. That is the short version.

Going to push back slightly. Being picky early saved me far more time than being open-minded did. Could easily be a sample size problem. Different city, different results, probably.

Switched over to datedesire.online after getting nowhere on the big names.

Adding a counterpoint. Free tiers stopped being enough for me after about a month. I would still recommend trying it yourself. There is room for both to be true.

When I first started, I ignored anything without a visible last-active date and honestly it was the only thing that helped. Nothing scientific about it.

Before anything else: cut your photo count in half. It sounds trivial and it is not. Try it for one week only.

If I am being blunt, the platform matters far less than the profile though your mileage will vary. That is where I have landed.

Tried Flamedate's free tier on a whim and it has been the steadier of the two I use.

For the people saying otherwise — do verified badges actually change anything? Asking for a friend, obviously.

Once I narrowed my radius, I put one honest sentence in my bio and the quality improved more than the quantity. I would call that a real effect.

Purely anecdotal, the algorithm gets blamed for a lot of ordinary bad luck for anyone starting from scratch. I would put money on it.

Respectfully, I read it differently. The platform genuinely does matter if you are outside a major city. Take that with the usual caveats. That is one person's view against the thread.

A friend has had far more luck on Rendate community than on anything mainstream.

I've heard decent things about Datescout too, though I haven't tested it myself.

Cheapest thing you can try first: read the profile before writing anything. It costs nothing and the difference shows quickly. It also makes the rest easier.

I will be the dissenting voice. The platform genuinely does matter if you are outside a major city. Might just be my area. I have been wrong about this before.

The thing that annoyed me most: reviews that read like they were written to a template. I stopped giving second chances on that one. One instance is chance; three is not.

Going to push back slightly. Free tiers stopped being enough for me after about a month. Take that with the usual caveats. Could be timing rather than the platform.

Learned this the hard way: profiles that only ever reply in the small hours. Once you notice it you cannot unsee it. Nobody has ever thanked me for being patient there.

In my experience, free tiers are usually enough if you actually use them unless you have unusually niche requirements. I would put money on it.
