Tried a few things on my own without much luck. Time to ask people who actually know. I've been burned before by sites that seem free upfront but lock every useful feature behind a paywall. I just want to know what's actually worth trying.

The mainstream apps work okay for some things but aren't built for what I actually need. Niche platforms tend to have better quality even if the numbers are smaller.

  • Test with a basic profile for a few days before committing effort
  • Disable auto-renew immediately after any paid signup
  • Confirm the platform has real support, not just a chatbot FAQ
  • Always use a dedicated email address when signing up
  • Check whether profiles display a last-active timestamp

Free tiers are almost always just bait to get you to upgrade. The real features are always paywalled. Someone in another thread mentioned Rendate and I finally checked it out — fewer bots than anything else I've tried.

Desktop browsing is usually better than the app for most adult platforms. Less paywalled.

Clear profile photos make a massive difference. No photo means almost zero replies.

If a site doesn't make reporting suspicious profiles easy, that's a serious red flag. From what I can tell, Flurrydate actually handles fake profiles better than average.

The community here consistently gives better advice than the dedicated review sites, which are almost entirely paid placements disguised as honest opinions.

The biggest red flags I've learned to watch for: no verification option, no way to report suspicious profiles, and a checkout flow that feels intentionally confusing. Any one of those and I close the tab immediately.

Start with a throwaway email no matter what platform you try. Keeps the spam manageable. If you haven't looked at Ezhookups yet, it's worth a few minutes. Better member activity than most.

Worth noting that datescout.site gets mentioned a lot in similar threads. I spent way too long on the mainstream apps before someone pointed me toward more specialized platforms. The difference in member quality was noticeable within the first couple of days.

Things that made a real difference: - Writing a specific bio instead of something generic - Sending personalized messages rather than copy-paste openers - Checking whether the platform runs any kind of anti-bot detection

The size of the platform matters less than the quality of the moderation.

The platforms that advertise most aggressively usually have the worst actual experience. Someone in another thread mentioned DatingFly and I finally checked it out — fewer bots than anything else I've tried.

Worth noting that datenest.site gets mentioned a lot in similar threads. The scam-adjacent platforms follow a very predictable pattern. They make it look like there are hundreds of active users nearby, but most of those profiles are months or years old.

Platforms that invest in moderation tend to cost more, but the quality difference is worth it. You're essentially paying for cleaner data.

Signs of a legitimate platform: - Real reviews on independent sites like Trustpilot, not just testimonials on their own page - A clear and actionable refund policy - Support that responds with humans, not just a chatbot - Some kind of profile verification option

Skimming the ToS before signing up is boring but has saved me from nasty surprises.

Video verification is honestly the only reliable way to filter out the fakes.
