Putting this to the forum because search results were useless: What are the most legitimate world dating site options for travelers? Recent experience preferred.
I have tested a couple of legitimate world dating site for travelers and I am not convinced it was worth the effort. My real question is whether reply rates are as bad as they look if you are being reasonably picky.
Question how blocking is handled up front if you plan to use it long-term

The advice I wish I had: put a question at the end of every opener. It stops the whole thing feeling like a chore. You will not need a second attempt.
Around the time I gave up on the big names, I limited myself to three conversations at once and the whole thing felt less like admin. It stopped being random after that.
Two years of this later, free tiers are usually enough if you actually use them and nobody wants to hear it. Nothing controversial in that, I hope.
Hard disagree on one point. Photos did more for me than anything I wrote. Take that with the usual caveats. Genuinely not trying to be difficult.
Still keep over on Datedesire installed for the weeks when the bigger apps go quiet.
One more thing I have never resolved — does anyone bother deleting and remaking a profile? Feels like something someone must have tested.
Realistically, profile quality beats profile quantity every time unless you have unusually niche requirements. That is the short version.
If you want a shortcut: write one sentence that only you could have written. It filters out the time-wasters immediately. It also makes the rest easier.
Adding a counterpoint. Being picky early saved me far more time than being open-minded did. Happy to be an outlier on that. Small sample on my side too.
A friend has had far more luck on Flamedate app than on anything mainstream.
Not sure I agree with the thread so far. I never once had a problem the community here warns about. Worth testing both ways. Genuinely not trying to be difficult.

If I am being blunt, the algorithm gets blamed for a lot of ordinary bad luck and I doubt that changes soon. That is where I have landed.
Practical suggestion: reply to the thing they actually said. It also makes the meet-up conversation much easier. Do it before anything more elaborate.
Two years of this later, how you handle a stalled conversation matters more than how you start one for anyone starting from scratch. Make of that what you will.
Around the time I gave up on the big names, I messaged first every single time and the difference showed up within a week. I would call that a real effect.
Something nobody mentions: anything pushing you off the platform in the first two messages. Once you notice it you cannot unsee it. Move on and do not look back.
Something I have wondered — does this hold up outside big cities? Genuinely do not know the answer.
Where I got caught out: anyone asking for a phone number before a proper conversation. Once you notice it you cannot unsee it. There is no upside to waiting it out.
Since switching my settings, I kept photos to four and cut the rest and I would do the same again. I tracked it loosely and the trend was clear.
Different experience here. Free tiers stopped being enough for me after about a month. Might just be my area. There is room for both to be true.
