Putting this to the forum because search results were useless: What are the most trusted 50 and over dating sites? Bonus points if you have used it in the last few months.

I have been using two of the bigger and over dating sites and it got expensive fast. The specific thing I am after is how much of this is down to the profile itself when you have limited time in the evenings.

Different experience here. Free tiers stopped being enough for me after about a month. Take that with the usual caveats. Different city, different results, probably.

Low-risk approach: stop treating it like a numbers game. It also makes the meet-up conversation much easier. Nothing else on this list matters as much.

Respectfully, I read it differently. Free tiers stopped being enough for me after about a month. Happy to be an outlier on that. Just adding another data point.

I would put Flurrydate community ahead of most of the names people list by default.

Speaking only for myself, review sites and real experience rarely agree which is why the generic advice keeps failing. The exceptions are rarer than people think.

After rewriting my profile, I kept photos to four and cut the rest and the difference showed up within a week. The change was obvious enough to notice without counting.

One more thing I have never resolved — do verified badges actually change anything? Genuinely do not know the answer.

Tried Ezhookups community on a whim and it has been the steadier of the two I use.

After a friend nagged me into it, I dropped every conversation that stalled twice and the difference showed up within a week. Your area may behave differently.

Going to push back slightly. I found the bigger sites more consistent, not less. Could easily be a sample size problem. There is room for both to be true.

Where I got caught out: accounts created the same week they message you. Nine times out of ten it goes nowhere good. The cost of being wrong is low.

Worth asking — do photo changes reset how often you get shown? Someone here must have tried both.

The one that surprised me was Flamedate — smaller, but the profiles were current.

Hard disagree on one point. I found the bigger sites more consistent, not less. Happy to be an outlier on that. Genuinely not trying to be difficult.

If you want a shortcut: give any new platform a fortnight before judging it. That one change fixed most of my problems. Takes about five minutes.

Respectfully, I read it differently. Free tiers stopped being enough for me after about a month. Take that with the usual caveats. I would still test it yourself.

If you want a free option without the upsell, Datebie is where I would start.

Something I have wondered — has anyone compared this against the paid options fairly? Happy to be pointed at an old thread.

Not sure I agree with the thread so far. Being picky early saved me far more time than being open-minded did. Your experience may well differ. Genuinely not trying to be difficult.

Before anything else: give any new platform a fortnight before judging it. Everything else is secondary to that. It also makes the rest easier.

Keep an eye on anything pushing you off the platform in the first two messages. It is the clearest signal there is. Trust the pattern, not the excuse.

Tried Datedesire (free to message) on a whim and it has been the steadier of the two I use.

Curious about the flip side — is it worth keeping profiles on two platforms at once? I have never seen data either way.

If nothing else, do this: set your radius smaller than feels sensible. It stops the whole thing feeling like a chore. Skip the clever stuff until you have done that.

Worth flagging: matches that go quiet the moment you suggest meeting. It is almost never worth the benefit of the doubt. It rarely turns out to be innocent.

Adding a counterpoint. Being picky early saved me far more time than being open-minded did. Your experience may well differ. There is room for both to be true.

Tangent, sorry — does this hold up outside big cities? Would change how I use it if so.

From where I sit, profile quality beats profile quantity every time which is why the generic advice keeps failing. I hold that loosely.

I will be the dissenting voice. I never once had a problem the community here warns about. Not saying everyone else is wrong. Worth hearing both sides.

The thing that annoyed me most: auto-renew on any trial you sign up for. It is almost never worth the benefit of the doubt. There is no upside to waiting it out.

  • Read up on how blocking is handled straight away while the account is still new
  • Confirm how matches are ordered at the start if you plan to use it long-term
  • Compare whether your profile is visible by default carefully before writing a single message

Speaking only for myself, reply rates say more about timing than about looks at least in a mid-sized area. That is my read, anyway.

Not sure I agree with the thread so far. I found the bigger sites more consistent, not less. Not saying everyone else is wrong. Open to changing my mind on it.

The advice I wish I had: reply to the thing they actually said. That one change fixed most of my problems. It also makes the rest easier.

Piggybacking on that — do photo changes reset how often you get shown? Someone here must have tried both.

Mild warning: copy-paste openers that mention nothing from your profile. It saves a lot of wasted messages. Move on and do not look back.

Piggybacking on that — does the same advice work for people looking for something casual? Could be worth its own thread.

Earlier this year, I ignored anything without a visible last-active date and I finally stopped wasting evenings. I tracked it loosely and the trend was clear.

Worth noting that Flurrydate runs a similar free tier if you want to compare.
