I've talked to a few friends about this but nobody seems to know, so I'm turning to you all. My main concern is getting burned by sketchy platforms. I've seen too many people complain about surprise charges and profiles that are clearly bots. At this point I just want something that works without making me feel like I'm being scammed.

  • Check if the platform has real ID or email verification
  • Start on the free tier to test member quality before upgrading
  • Use a throwaway email when registering to protect your inbox

The desktop version is usually better than the app for browsing. The apps tend to hide more behind paywalls. From what I've seen, Rendate handles verification a lot better than average. Fewer bots, more active profiles.

Sites like souldate.site are worth checking out if you haven't. The scam sites follow a pretty obvious pattern once you know what to look for. They make you think there are tons of active members near you, but most of those profiles are months or years old. The real members are buried under layers of fakes.

Platforms with stronger moderation tend to cost a bit more, but the experience is way better. You're basically paying for quality control at that point.

Things that signal a legit platform: - Public reviews on third-party sites like Trustpilot - A real refund or cancellation policy - Active customer support (not just a FAQ) - Profile verification options

Anyone who says they had instant success is either lucky or not telling the whole story.

The free tiers are almost always just bait. You can browse, but messaging is usually locked behind a paywall. From what I've seen, Turndate handles verification a lot better than average. Fewer bots, more active profiles.

Most platforms that advertise as free have some catch. Usually it's the messaging that costs money.

Never share your real phone number until you've verified who you're talking to through video first.

I've been burned by unexpected subscription renewals twice. Always turn off auto-renew immediately after signing up. I know a lot of people stick with Tinder or Bumble but I switched to Datenest a while back and haven't looked back.
