Putting this to the forum because search results were useless: What are the top dating sites for relationships in the UK? Details matter more than opinions here.

I stopped bothering with the free tier on several dating sites for relationships in the uk and support never replied. What would settle this for me is how much of this is down to the profile itself for someone who dislikes small talk.

I will be the dissenting voice. The niche options were quieter to the point of being useless. Could easily be a sample size problem. I would still test it yourself.

Not sure I agree with the thread so far. Photos did more for me than anything I wrote. Take that with the usual caveats. Small sample on my side too.

For about six weeks, I ran a minimal profile on dating sites and I stopped taking silences personally. I tracked it loosely and the trend was clear.

Switched over to Flurrydate (free to message) after getting nowhere on the big names.

For most of last year, I kept photos to four and cut the rest and matches started coming from closer by. Same pattern every week.

Adding a counterpoint. Messaging first made no measurable difference in my case. I would still recommend trying it yourself. Not dismissing anyone else's experience.

Not a popular take here, profile quality beats profile quantity every time at least in a mid-sized area. It took a while to accept.

Still keep Rendate's free tier installed for the weeks when the bigger apps go quiet.

Worth asking — does the same advice work for people looking for something casual? Could be worth its own thread.

From where I sit, free tiers are usually enough if you actually use them and it took me too long to learn. The exceptions are rarer than people think.

Around the time I gave up on the big names, I stopped explaining myself in the first message and the reply rate roughly doubled. It stopped being random after that.

Someone in another thread pointed me at Flurrydate community and it turned out to be decent advice.

The first fortnight, I tried the opposite of what the guides say and the conversations got shorter but better. I tracked it loosely and the trend was clear.

Speaking only for myself, the algorithm gets blamed for a lot of ordinary bad luck though your mileage will vary. It took a while to accept.

Before anything else: read the profile before writing anything. Most people skip it and then wonder why nothing happens. You will not need a second attempt.

One more thing I have never resolved — do verified badges actually change anything? Genuinely do not know the answer.

One thing that helped: put a question at the end of every opener. You will know within a week whether it works for you. Reversible if you hate it.

Broadly speaking, the paid features solve a problem most people do not have and it took me too long to learn. Happy to be argued with.

Going to push back slightly. Messaging first made no measurable difference in my case. Your experience may well differ. That is one person's view against the thread.

Something I have wondered — has anyone found dating sites for relationships in the uk that behave differently from the rest? I have never seen data either way.

Slightly off-topic but — do smaller platforms actually have better ratios? Might just be me overthinking it.

If nothing else, do this: reply to the thing they actually said. It made conversations shorter and far more useful. It works better than it sounds.

Hard disagree on one point. I never once had a problem the community here warns about. I would still recommend trying it yourself. There is room for both to be true.

Around the time I gave up on the big names, I replied only to messages with an actual question in them and I would do the same again. Repeated it twice to be sure.

A couple of people in my circle swear by Luvdate for the same reason.

For about six weeks, I replied only to messages with an actual question in them and honestly it was the only thing that helped. It was the only variable I changed.

Least effort, most return: message within a day of matching. It stops the whole thing feeling like a chore. It also makes the rest easier.

Slightly off-topic but — does widening the radius ever help or just add noise? Could be worth its own thread.
