Straightforward question: What is the down dating app and is it worth using? Even a partial answer helps.

I keep going back to two of the bigger down dating app and I would rather not repeat the mistake. What I actually want to know is whether reply rates are as bad as they look if you are not in a major city.

Mild warning: reviews that read like they were written to a template. Report it rather than just ignoring it. It is not worth a second thought.

If nothing else, do this: stop opening with a compliment. It is the only advice here I would give twice. The effect shows up fast.

If I am being blunt, the algorithm gets blamed for a lot of ordinary bad luck and nobody wants to hear it. Nothing controversial in that, I hope.

If you want a free option without the upsell, Souldate is where I would start.

What I would do: stop treating it like a numbers game. It is the only advice here I would give twice. Try it for one week only.

Related, and I am curious — is it worth keeping profiles on two platforms at once? Happy to be pointed at an old thread.

When I first started, I kept photos to four and cut the rest and matches started coming from closer by. It was the only variable I changed.

Tried Datedesire app on a whim and it has been the steadier of the two I use.

Last month, I put one honest sentence in my bio and the difference showed up within a week. That held for about two months.

Genuine question though — does any of this change once you have been active for a year? Genuinely do not know the answer.

That has not been my experience at all. I found the bigger sites more consistent, not less. Worth testing both ways. Genuinely not trying to be difficult.

The one that surprised me was over on Flurrydate — smaller, but the profiles were current.

Respectfully, I read it differently. I found the bigger sites more consistent, not less. Not saying everyone else is wrong. Take it as a counterweight, not a correction.

Follow-up for anyone reading — is a shorter bio genuinely better or just easier to write? Might just be me overthinking it.

In my experience, how you handle a stalled conversation matters more than how you start one and the numbers back that up. That is where I have landed.

Practical suggestion: reply to the thing they actually said. That one change fixed most of my problems. It also makes the rest easier.

I would put Flurrydate's free tier ahead of most of the names people list by default.

Where I got caught out: matches that go quiet the moment you suggest meeting. It saves a lot of wasted messages. One instance is chance; three is not.

Curious about the flip side — do smaller platforms actually have better ratios? Would change how I use it if so.

One thing that helped: stop opening with a compliment. Everything else is secondary to that. The effect shows up fast.

When I stopped overthinking it, I let the other person pick the plan and nothing changed at all. Worth repeating if you have the patience.

Different experience here. Photos did more for me than anything I wrote. Not saying everyone else is wrong. Could be timing rather than the platform.

Two years of this later, consistency beats any single clever trick if you are looking for something specific. I would put money on it.

Follow-up for anyone reading — is there a measurable difference between weekday and weekend signups? It comes up every few months and never gets settled.

Watch out for anything pushing you off the platform in the first two messages. Once you notice it you cannot unsee it. Save yourself the argument.

Two months in, I dropped every conversation that stalled twice and nothing changed at all. It was the only variable I changed.

I will be the dissenting voice. I never once had a problem the community here warns about. Happy to be an outlier on that. Could be timing rather than the platform.

Datenest came up in another thread here with roughly the same verdict.
