Asking properly this time: What is the most important part of a dating profile to get right? Details matter more than opinions here.
I spent about a month on two of the bigger dating profiles and I could not tell which reviews were paid for. Where I need help is how you tell an active profile from an abandoned one as someone coming back after a long break.
That has not been my experience at all. The platform genuinely does matter if you are outside a major city. Not saying everyone else is wrong. I would still test it yourself.
Compare what the free tier really includes without exception so you are not surprised later
Note how reporting actually works on day one in the first day or two
Review how many photos are required every time in the first day or two
Review how blocking is handled before anything else especially on a platform you have not used before
Review how matches are ordered early on before writing a single message
Based on a fairly small sample, how you handle a stalled conversation matters more than how you start one though your mileage will vary. That is the short version.
Mild warning: sites that hide the message count behind an upgrade. Nine times out of ten it goes nowhere good. Save yourself the argument.
For what it is worth, Datedesire's free tier was the one that finally got me past the first-message stage.
That has not been my experience at all. I never once had a problem the community here warns about. Happy to be an outlier on that. Small sample on my side too.
Look at how quickly support responds first while the account is still new
Compare the last-active timestamp early on if you plan to use it long-term
Verify what data the signup form asks for especially on a platform you have not used before
Check whether profiles are verified carefully before you upload anything personal
Verify how blocking is handled early on so you are not surprised later
I will be the dissenting voice. The platform genuinely does matter if you are outside a major city. Could easily be a sample size problem. There is room for both to be true.
Watch out for auto-renew on any trial you sign up for. Better to lose one match than a week. The polite version costs you a week.
Someone in another thread pointed me at DatingFly and it turned out to be decent advice.
The advice I wish I had: keep the first meet under an hour. That one change fixed most of my problems. Do it before anything more elaborate.
Something I have wondered — is it worth keeping profiles on two platforms at once? Genuinely do not know the answer.
Worth flagging: reviews that read like they were written to a template. That pattern has been consistent for me across platforms. Better safe than curious.
For about six weeks, I stuck to dating profiles with complete profiles only and nothing changed at all. It stopped being random after that.
Different experience here. The niche options were quieter to the point of being useless. Worth testing both ways. I might be the exception.
When I first started, I answered everything within a day and I got three real plans out of it. I would call that a real effect.
Worth testing for a week: use a dedicated email address. It costs nothing and the difference shows quickly. Skip the clever stuff until you have done that.
Slightly off-topic but — has anyone compared this against the paid options fairly? Would change how I use it if so.
