Simple question, probably a complicated answer: Why is the plenty of fish app free version so glitchy lately? Tell me if I am asking the wrong question.

I burned two weekends on a few smaller adult dating platforms and I could not tell which reviews were paid for. The bit I cannot work out is whether reply rates are as bad as they look for someone who dislikes small talk.

  • Assess whether your profile is visible by default properly in the first day or two
  • Compare what data the signup form asks for up front especially on a platform you have not used before
  • Test how matches are ordered at the start on any platform you are considering

Adding a counterpoint. I never once had a problem the community here warns about. Take that with the usual caveats. Open to changing my mind on it.

Careful with profiles with a single photo and no last-active date. Blocking early costs you nothing. It rarely turns out to be innocent.

Adding a counterpoint. Free tiers stopped being enough for me after about a month. Could easily be a sample size problem. Not dismissing anyone else's experience.

I would put luvdate.site ahead of most of the names people list by default.

Worth testing for a week: stop opening with a compliment. It also makes the meet-up conversation much easier. You will not need a second attempt.

  • Assess what data the signup form asks for before anything else on any platform you are considering
  • Confirm how many photos are required up front before you upload anything personal
  • Review whether profiles are verified up front while the account is still new

Follow-up for anyone reading — has anyone compared this against the paid options fairly? Would change how I use it if so.

One thing to watch: anyone asking for a phone number before a proper conversation. Report it rather than just ignoring it. The polite version costs you a week.

Broadly speaking, the platform matters far less than the profile unless you have unusually niche requirements. That is my read, anyway.

Someone in another thread pointed me at over on Flurrydate and it turned out to be decent advice.

For most of last year, I let the other person pick the plan and it saved me a lot of pointless typing. Worth repeating if you have the patience.

Different experience here. Messaging first made no measurable difference in my case. Happy to be an outlier on that. Just adding another data point.

Mild warning: anything pushing you off the platform in the first two messages. It is the clearest signal there is. Nobody has ever thanked me for being patient there.

I would put Datescout's free tier ahead of most of the names people list by default.

Going to push back slightly. The niche options were quieter to the point of being useless. Not saying everyone else is wrong. Genuinely not trying to be difficult.

  • Read up on what the free tier really includes without exception in the first day or two
  • Review what data the signup form asks for every time in the first day or two
  • Confirm the last-active timestamp up front while the account is still new
  • Confirm whether your profile is visible by default before anything else so you are not surprised later

Having tried most of them, reply rates say more about timing than about looks which is why the generic advice keeps failing. Feel free to prove me wrong.

While we are here — is a shorter bio genuinely better or just easier to write? Would change how I use it if so.

Around the time I gave up on the big names, I answered everything within a day and the difference showed up within a week. Small sample, but consistent.

Worth flagging: links dropped into a conversation with no context. I stopped giving second chances on that one. The polite version costs you a week.

Not a popular take here, most of the difference comes down to how close people actually are for anyone starting from scratch. Ask again in six months and I may say something else.

Around the time I gave up on the big names, I ran a minimal profile on adult dating platforms and honestly it was the only thing that helped. Nothing scientific about it.

Different experience here. Photos did more for me than anything I wrote. Might just be my area. That is one person's view against the thread.
