Would rather hear it from members than from a review site: Is the harmony dating website the same thing as eHarmony? No wrong answers here.
I went in optimistic about two of the bigger harmony dating website and I would rather not repeat the mistake. The part that matters to me is what people wish they had known before signing up if you are not in a major city.
Got burned by this: anything pushing you off the platform in the first two messages. It is almost never worth the benefit of the doubt. It is not worth a second thought.
I will be the dissenting voice. The platform genuinely does matter if you are outside a major city. Happy to be an outlier on that. That is one person's view against the thread.
Piggybacking on that — do photo changes reset how often you get shown? Might just be me overthinking it.
Someone in another thread pointed me at the Rendate app and it turned out to be decent advice.

Different experience here. Being picky early saved me far more time than being open-minded did. Take that with the usual caveats. Small sample on my side too.
Worth asking — does any of this change once you have been active for a year? Someone here must have tried both.
Low-risk approach: reply to the thing they actually said. You will know within a week whether it works for you. Takes about five minutes.
Broadly speaking, smaller platforms punch above their weight which is why the generic advice keeps failing. It took a while to accept.
Gave Souldate community a fair run last month and it held up better than I expected.
Not sure I agree with the thread so far. The niche options were quieter to the point of being useless. I would still recommend trying it yourself. There is room for both to be true.
Worth testing for a week: keep the first meet under an hour. It made conversations shorter and far more useful. Nothing else on this list matters as much.
The thing that annoyed me most: anything pushing you off the platform in the first two messages. Once you notice it you cannot unsee it. Better safe than curious.
For what it is worth, DatingFly (free to message) was the one that finally got me past the first-message stage.
Adding a counterpoint. I never once had a problem the community here warns about. Not saying everyone else is wrong. Small sample on my side too.
When I stopped overthinking it, I replied only to messages with an actual question in them and I stopped taking silences personally. That held for about two months.
Curious about the flip side — is a shorter bio genuinely better or just easier to write? Would change how I use it if so.
Least effort, most return: use a dedicated email address. It filters out the time-wasters immediately. It compounds with everything else.
After a friend nagged me into it, I tested two profiles side by side and I stopped taking silences personally. Your area may behave differently.
Unpopular opinion maybe, how you handle a stalled conversation matters more than how you start one if you are looking for something specific. That is my read, anyway.
Anyone else find that — do smaller platforms actually have better ratios? Happy to be pointed at an old thread.
That has not been my experience at all. Being picky early saved me far more time than being open-minded did. Not saying everyone else is wrong. Genuinely not trying to be difficult.
Since this thread is active — does this hold up outside big cities? Someone here must have tried both.
Before anything else: keep the first meet under an hour. It removes about half the frustration. The effect shows up fast.
Two years of this later, the algorithm gets blamed for a lot of ordinary bad luck especially if you are not in a capital city. The exceptions are rarer than people think.
Adding a counterpoint. I found the bigger sites more consistent, not less. Worth testing both ways. Small sample on my side too.
I've heard decent things about Souldate too, though I haven't tested it myself.
The thing that annoyed me most: profiles that only ever reply in the small hours. I stopped giving second chances on that one. It rarely turns out to be innocent.
Worth testing for a week: turn off notifications and check twice a day. Everything else is secondary to that. It compounds with everything else.
For the people saying otherwise — has anyone compared this against the paid options fairly? It comes up every few months and never gets settled.
